I sent you a private message too, but not sure which one'll reach you first. Is it okay to make YouTube videos of Mushroom Revolution? And if so, is it also okay to monetize them (put ads on them), or not? Thanks!
Given your focus on text, I would also suggest you look into Squiffy, a way of writing of Interactive Fiction. With a bit of Javascript you could probably add in the music just fine, and it shouldn't be impossible to include images, but you could easily tell this kind of story entirely through words.
A medium brings expectations. A person starting up a text adventure is ready to read and focused on the words; a person starting up a Kongregate game can find words to be a distraction and an irritation, because they're focused on other things.
It's not impossible to use this medium to tell a story like yours, but I do think it might go over better -- and perhaps be easier to develop in a short time frame, in case that's a concern -- in Squiffy. What gameplay elements existed (do I talk to all of them, or just some of them, or none of them?) certainly felt like Interactive Fiction.
Shorter than expected, short and sweet; I have no idea what the little choices do, but it's interesting as a mostly text-based, story-based experience with little in the way of gameplay.
Like Recettear, the third chapter of Dragon Quest IV, and Red Dragon Inn, this gives an unusual perspective to the adventurer -- less focus on what they do, more on the drudgery it's become and the kind of person who leads that kind of life.
It seems like it could use a more full treatment at some point, and I hope it gets one. Especially, if it's a game, there should be meaningful choices -- do watch several Extra Credits episodes on how games use Choice, conflict, and consequences.
Holy cow this game is mindless AWESOME! I don't usually go out for mindless games - I'm more of a thinker when I play - but tonight, when I needed to get my mind off of things, this game was JUST the thing I needed. I enjoyed it from the moment I figured out the control scheme and if people weren't sleeping in this house I would be laughing my head off. Thank you!
I was expecting the last area to be so hot you couldn't even buy a coolant good enough, and had to rush in there with heavy armor and risk it. But this was pretty relaxing. The music goes well with it.
Two problems: You can "buy" multiple versions of the same thing, wasting money, which early on is pretty tight. Also, the walk back was 100% waste of time and I started to get really irritated over having to do it. There's no danger besides accidentally wasting a mineral, so just cut out the time-wasting element and provide means to get to the surface, and back to this or that side of the town, without having to walk all the way.
Awesome! Rare to see such an enjoyable edutainment feature.
Would like to see a version that went on farther. I expected, for example, the ability to convert fatty acids back into glucose, and an explanation of how the carb/protein/fat thing works with diet.
As far as negatives... well, I seemed to be getting a ton of Amino Acids compared to everything else... and the whole "make a baby platypus out of this" was a little weird and could use better explanation. Beyond that: Please make other games!
Kongregate is a game site, and this fails the basic test of being a game. It may be interesting information, but it does not belong here.
Clarification on failure: No losing condition; no uncertain outcome. Probably more, but those are the main things it lacks.
The puzzles were fun (if frustrating), but coming from a bunch of Afro Ninja's ontological mysteries... this sucks. It's not that the pieces are bad, but that you try to make them the key to "escaping" for absolutely no reason at all, which gives it a pointless pretense. At least with Afro Ninja's stuff, there's a hint of actually trying to figure out how to leave.
I've played Youda Sushi Chef demos a lot - installed several, never gotten around to buying it. It's a relaxing game with just enough mental stimulation to keep you on your toes. The music suits it perfectly and I enjoy the graphics. But people are right - this doesn't really belong on Kong.
I think I lost by panic... the meter went red, the game made a sound like "Aaah!" and the music stopped. But the game just kept going. Eradicating the disease and passing the 40 day mark (for Hard) do nothing. I think this game needs a feedback tweak.
Oh man, that's hilarious... the entire world's infected, I'm just waiting for the points to be able to make it increasingly lethal... and these two little boats are whipping around in the Atlantic Ocean, trying desperately to find a place to land, but all the ports are closed. Just keep going in a holding pattern....
Excellent and creepy. Some of the puzzles were very difficult. I hope you make a few more games like this - with different stories, of course. (I played Gateway I after Gateway II, and Gateway I was depressingly short.)
@zutopia: You may be thinking of #39, Longevity (stay alive for 30 seconds).
Achievement #53 is titled "300 Seconds" and on the hint page is given the text "Play for five minutes." Which doesn't explain how I and others have beaten the game faster. Hrm.
This is awesome! Most fun I had all day. Only had to get help on typing in the developer's name, and probably would've got that too if I had been patient. Cheers!
