Vertical Drop Heroes is an original take on the platform genre, with a simple yet surprisingly enjoyable gameplay. You start at the top of each level as a simple adventurer and need to make your way down to reach the level's goal. As you descend, you come across heroes of various classes, which you can rescue to replace your original character. Each class has abilities that enhance the gameplay, and you'll soon learn to seek a new hero depending on your situation, or simply your preferences. The levels are randomly generated and set in different environments, and each gives you the chance to unlock an artifact that can add new abilities to a class by collecting treasure. The enemies have different abilities as well, and the bosses add some nice variety to the mix. Overall, a very good platform game.

This is a great casual game, enjoyable by all, and useful for teaching children how some of the things around them are related. Taking on the role of "Doodle God" you start out with only four elements and try to expand the world. You do this by combining elements, and soon discover that the pairs that produce new results are well thought out to mimic the real world (for example, by planting seeds on a field, you get wheat). The number of new elements you can discover is vast, and includes both living and non-living items, as well as natural and unnatural (yes, you can even create dragons!). Sometimes the effects are quite humorous (a dragon meeting a human will turn the human into ash). The great asset of the game is the great feeling you get when you find a new viable combination after several unsuccessful attempts. The graphics are simple but suit the game perfectly, and the sound background is pleasant enough to keep turned on. In conclusion, a great game worth playing till the end.

This is an average platformer. The levels are completely linear, they are too short and there are too few of them, with the differences being mostly cosmetic. Some of the obstacles appear only once you get close to their designated position, adding a challenge to your timing, but the combat against regular enemies is overly simplified and unrewarding. The bosses of each level add variety, but fighting them is too easy and always the same: run up a wall, avoid their attack, strike quickly and run, then repeat. While it is great that each level you get a new elemental power, it's a shame you can't switch between them until the final level. The game's best idea is the "time rewinding" mechanism, which takes you back a few seconds to correct a missed jump or other mistakes. With better level design, this game could become quite good.

This is a good strategy game, with simplified concepts, but able to prove quite a challenge. In order to reach the targets on each map, you must expand your control area using passive buildings which transfer energy from your main base. At the same time, you must protect your buildings from the ever-expanding enemy control area, by building weapon systems. You must come up with a strategy that enables you to expand bit by bit, by focusing weapon systems to clear a small enemy area and then claiming it for yourself. You cannot effectively sustain too many weapons systems, so you must change their locations to best keep the enemy under fire. While this provides an engaging experience, you will come to miss a proper save option (you can only save between missions), while sometimes you'll want the possibility to adjust game speed. To sum up, a good strategy game that can keep you engaged for a long time.

By far one of the worst games I have played on Kong :( . DW is a tick-based MMORPG. There are numerous competitors on this market, and DW sadly doesn't stand up to them. Since the Flash platform is used, graphics and sound effect could have been a major selling point, but the graphics are sub-par and the sound effect nonexistent. The tick system is poorly implemented: the energy cap is too low, and energy runs out too fast. This is probably to get players to log in as often as possible, but it ends up being annoying. Combat is a hellish click-fest and the quests you get are nothing special and offer very poor rewards. The few nice things DW has are the random encounters and the minigames and trivia. You can also achieve a state where you can work together with your guild mates to defeat bosses, however the decision to make this end-game content is poorly thought-out. The game feels as though it was made to generate funds for the creators and offer a poor gaming experience.

A very good puzzle game. The goal is to identify a murder suspect by finding the clues scattered around the crime scene. You can find the clues through a minesweeper-like process, where each tile hints to the number of clues surrounding it. However, you must keep in mind that you have a limited time (translated to number of moves), so mindless clicking is out of the question. You may also find tiles and increase or decrease the remaining time and provide a greater reward. The rewards for each case can be used to purchase additional bonuses, such as revealing a number of tiles at the start of a game. A series of in-game achievements can also be collected. The graphics are good and the sound doesn't get annoying. A great choice to replace minesweeper when wasting time at the office :) .

This is a fun and extremely addictive casual game. Playing consists of dropping a cat onto a level's environment so that it can consume the sushi scattered throughout. Several obstacles, some static and some mobile, serve as bouncing platforms for the cat. As such, while the first levels can easily be completed by dropping the cat without much thought, soon you will find yourself planning the best route and waiting for just the right moment to enter play. Each of the 3 main stages also present different bonuses, such as an extra drop in the first stage or a cannon that can be used to change trajectory while already dropped. If playing to maximize score, you can expect to spend even more time planning your course and even repeating some levels if things don't turn out the way you wanted. The artistic setting uses simple, brightly coloured elements, and is very cute, which is fitting for a casual game of this nature. In conclusion, a good, fun game and a great choice to relax.

A very nice point-and-click adventure game, just in time for Valentine's Day. On a mission to win back your love, you need to interact with several characters, each with their own emotional problems. You must learn when to speak and when to listen, how to express your feelings and even how to reveal your heart in song. The graphics are decent and create a cute setting. The sound effects can be considered either amusing or annoying. At the of the game, you are given the option of "purchasing" game-related downloads with hidden coins you must find during play. The main problem of the game is, of course, its portrayal of gamers as lazy, junk-food consuming, family-ignoring people, though hopefully this is simply a joke the producers intended to make.

An excellent casual game, 4 Differences features beautiful graphics, a relaxing musical background that doesn't distract the player and a few original additions to the classic spot-the-differences formula. The images are very well chosen, and both the photographs and the computer generated ones are clear, with pleasant colors that don't tire the eyes. The differences are well placed and sometimes you'll spend a decent amount of time before realizing they're right in front of you :) . The mechanics include differences that appear as a level progresses and even levels that are "in motion". The number of differences you have left is placed in each level to appear as a part of the background. The overall level of polish is very high, and you can clearly see great attention has been given to each detail, adding even more value to the relaxing experience the game offers.

An excellent point-and-click adventure game. Set during a zombie apocalypse, the game does an excellent job at getting the player to use their intellect to avoid and escape his predators instead of confronting them. Careful exploration of the environment is just as important as figuring out how to use the various items that come into your possession in order to reach your goal. The atmosphere is created very well - on the one hand, your character is alone and must survive on his own, on the other, he takes constant steps to isolate himself even further from the now-hostile world; human contact is only a memory, as the various notes you find will make you realize. The graphics are good, the control scheme is classic for this type of game and works well. Overall, a great and very enjoyable game.

This is a good and fun tower defense game. The levels are tied together by a humorous plot, and both the story, conversations and "unit" design will bring you a few smiles. Level design is good, and will require that you plan the positioning of your units carefully. The units themselves are well chosen, though dedicated TD fans will probably miss the multiple upgrade paths option, as well as the AoE and poison unit types. Still, the game is relatively easy and a lot of fun with the chosen selection of units. The creeps are of the standard types, but it would have been more fitting for the game's atmosphere had they been given personalities instead of being left in the mindless insect/snake/bat category. Money saved from one map to another can be spent to increase your unit pool, though it would have been nice if the shop also had some upgrades on sale. If you're looking for a simple and fun TD game to relax, this is a good choice.

This is a good sniper simulator, wherein you eliminate stick figures from a distance. It's nice to note that the game's briefings are tied together to create a plot, but sadly the Iraqi terrorist organization subject falls short of raising an interest. The game itself however is good, and there is more to it than just point-click-win. There are times when you need to identify your target and discover the right time interval to fire your weapon. Your aim moves slightly for increased realism, so you need to plan a few seconds ahead of making the shot. Some levels require thinking out of the box, and you need to interract with the environment. There is also a shop where you can purchase several rifle models - unfortunately the best seems to be bugged - as well as three types of scope and a couple of upgrades. Sadly there are only nine missions, making the game extremely short, even if you'll probably need to repeat some of them. Overall, a good game with potential for improvement.

A good arcade game, Rage 3 uses simplified graphics to help focus the player's attention on the fast-paced action. Taking control of a stick figure hero, you can play both through an adventure mode and 2 arcade modes. As you gain levels you unlock new abilities, and there are several weapon upgrades that can be unlocked, from both the blade and firearm variety. The adventure levels offer more than just an endless slaughter of opposing stick figures, as you will need to explore the level layout to unlock energy barriers and activate springs that can propel you to new areas. Each level comes with its own boss, yet the game's overall difficulty is moderate at best. If you ever have time for a quick session of button-mashing, this game is a good choice.

The second installment in the Alice is dead series is here, and it was well worth the wait. The dark atmosphere of this re-imagined Wonderland draws you in just as the first chapter did, and the graphics are, as expected, extremely polished and well suited to the game's setting. As more details of your crime are revealed, you also get to meet the Mad Hatter, whose redesign fits in perfectly with the general feeling of the series, and some patient exploration will even reward you with a brief look at the Cheshire Cat :) . The game mechanics are still very intuitive, as is the case with any point-and-click adventure, and just as it was with its predecessor, the game's only flaw is its short duration. However, the series itself is amazing and I cannot wait for chapter 3.

This is a very good arcade space shooter, with fast-paced action and great graphics. You can choose from several ship models, each with its own attributes, with the best ones becoming available after you have made some hefty purchases :) . In addition, three shop tiers allow you to purchase a great number of addition components to customize your current ship, and a further 2 types of shops only appear randomly during play to add provide even more options. The weapon upgrades you can pick on the way are needed if you wish to get through the waves of enemies - from ships to battle platforms and end-level bosses, each has its own attack pattern that you will need to take into account. As the levels progress, the bosses especially pose increasingly greater challenges, but the satisfaction you get from defeating them makes it worth the effort. An very good game that is great fun to play!

This is a good casual game. The mechanics are easy to understand - guide a flock of geese over urban areas and bodies of water, collecting new members along the way, and avoiding the various types of aircraft that can destroy the birds. The graphics doesn't stand out, but at the later stages you will learn to appreciate the clarity of the objects on screen and the nice greyscale that doesn't tire the eyes. The game requires quick reflexes and good hand-eye coordination, and the simple mouse control method is very well suited for this goal. There is also a system of achievements and upgrades to further the playing experience, though the upgrades are quite easy to obtain. Well worth playing.

Feudalism

The first game in the Feudalism series is very good strategy with RPG elements. Compared to the sequel, the map is smaller and there are fewer nationalities which makes the game easier to complete, however the gameplay is just as enjoyable. Instead of runes, a very large number of special bonuses variations appear on some of the items you loot off your enemies. There are no battle skills, just as there are no auras (these, however, are substituted by two overpowered skills, Patriotism and Art of War, and scrolls that offer battlefield-wide healing). Battles are much easier than the sequel's normal mode, as you can bring in as many troops as you like, and even the enemy cities seem to have fewer defenders. This makes the first installment in the series a good practice mode for the sequel. To sum up, this is a very good game that I've played, and enjoyed, a lot.

An amazing RPG with excellent graphics and a gameplay that will leave you hooked. Sonny puts the player in the position of a zombie that must fight for his survival. As you are hunted by the relentless ZPCI who seem to want all zombies dead, you'll also come across more original enemies, from ghost samurais to a zombie Elvis, and each area offers several item sets you can collect. The combat system is turned-based and resembles that of console RPGs, with each character getting to choose a target and an ability to use. The abilities vary from damage of various types to buffs and healing, and you can make use of respecs to change the abilities you've gained, while the character class determines how most of your attribute points are distributed. The story lacks a conclusion, but that will only leave you yearning for the sequel. In conclusion, a must-play game of great quality.

Shadowreign RPG

Play Shadowreign RPG

Dec. 23, 2009

The sequel to Hands of War, Shadowreign is an excellent action RPG. Many of its predecessor's aspects have been streamlined to offer an even more refined gaming experience. The predefined class system has made way to a skill tree with 4 branches, enabling the mixing of skills from any one to create a character that best suits your play style. The faction system has been removed - no more exclusive faction quests means reduced replayability, but on the bright side it also means a great reduction to the grinding aspect. The story element does not shine, but it is still well above HoW. The key aspect remains character customization, with a great number of items that can be obtained, and the new skills add to this immensely. Overall, an excellent game and a great example of how sequels should be made.
