You need to increase the amount of money you earn A LOT. After level 10 you have to play a level like 10 times to earn 1 decent upgrade. Better yet, give gold for matched units too.

OK, with the latest update you jumped the shark in the fridge. It´s all been said before, if you want to improve the game further, roll back to 1 month ago, EVERYTHING was better.
