BOOM! I let it fall and it clangs softly, muffled by the blood rushing in my ears, mixed with a slurred heartbeat. Down I fall, along with it, the sound of the end in my ears. On my knees, I reach out but the helpful hand is only in my mind, invisible to all else but me. My tears come out, red as they decorate the blank canvas around me. My artwork is lifeless and dull. I conceal it with my body, overlapping it with weak arms. The tears stream down my face, curving around my mouth and continuing on. They pool around in my hair, slowly climbing higher, reaching up, filling out and yet as I try to swim, I sink, my heart as hard and lifeless as stone, cold as night, freezing, letting every word come, clear as day.
The rain comes down and dots my body with invisible, lingering, droplets. It beats on me and I am unable to move. My tongue feels heavy and awkward in my mouth, unable to scream for something I would have earlier pushed away, help. Help me, save me from this. My fingers twitch looking for anything to keep myself here, a pebble, a stick, a hand. Nothing. I am alone, drowning, left to die. Usually I dance in the rain but my limbs are no longer under my control, changing who I was. I can hear my heart beat steady, slowing slightly. My hair is matted to my face, leaving me blind. The seconds tick by. Tick tock, tick tock. 1…2…3…4. How long?
My lips are dry. My tongue is dead. I lay flat on my back, the canvas around me with only one part colored a vibrant red. Tick tock. The lights come, flashing. No, not yet, I need more time. Tick tock. More time. Tick tock…
