This game has the bad parts of both Minecraft (boring combat, simplistic character/gear progression) and Terraria (a 2D world limits building a great deal), and none of the good parts -- except that it's free. On top of this it adds quite a few bugs (lighting and block picking are both buggy; I've had a spider spawn right next to me in a 1-cell wide vertical tunnel -- and that's just like 10mins of gameplay) and a clunky UI. Mass manufacturing items (think ladders) is a chore with no option to split stacks in half. Shift-clicking instead of right click also feels cumbersome. All in all a bold attempt, but in its current state I give it 2/5.

Developer response from Zanzlanz

You may use right-clicking if you modded your browser into not showing the Flash menu and keeping focus on the game. Other than that, it's nothing I can control. Thanks for your honest opinions :D

I found what Tsugaroo suggests quite pointless, since I managed to win every level in the game in a single run w/o replaying any old levels. Just max atk/def then agility, and give any extra points to fireball. Was lvl 23 or so when I beat it I think. Holding and attacking from towers is the key to easy victory; just fireball them before attacking.

Wave 18 is indeed brutal... I began suspecting what would be there after reading all the comments saying how bad it is, and all I will say is: indeed, they're in the level :-) You can still get points on wave 18 though, and get 30k+ by the end of wave 17 -- just max candy ASAP. As for my build, it was 2ninja/pirate/cat. I find the pirate's firing pattern is complementary to the ninjas, and the broadside attack is pretty handy as well. And frenzy is an OP support ability if I ever saw one.

Easyest hard badge ever! and I'm horrible at racing sims. Also, if you're having trouble with the slaloms, with some it's best to be as fast as possible, and with some it's best to be as accurate as possible, so try both, and remember you don't have to keep the up key pressed all the time; you even have a down key too ;-)

2/5: Has potential, but the control scheme blows it. It's just WAY too imprecise for this type of game.

It badly needs to lock the mouse or at least pause the game when it loses mouse focus; it's incredibly frustrating as it is, and my focus is mainly not on killing the enemies, but on keeping the mouse inside the window (or insta-death ensues)

@auggiedog hmmm, I found that unlikely, but trying it myself I scored 78k and collected 30 tris lol (this was at level 6 w/ item magnet though); then the sun set. So btw -- I guess completing the objective to see the sunset is as simple as clicking "play" and not moving your ship at all.

WARNING! If you kill a quest target and then load a game saved before killing him, the save seems to become corrupted: you can no longer find the quest target, thus you're unable to complete the quest and progress further. I've even tried things like restarting firefox in hopes the invalid state was not actually SAVED; unfortunately it was, and after restarting the game once, I'm not willing to do so again after losing my save to a similar bug. 2/5 for easily corrupted saves; would have been maybe 4/5 otherwise.

I feel like the balance is off; possibly due to the player now being able to terraform much faster. All the early and most late-game missions are trivial; the most challenging ones are mid-game. I found that in many late-game missions the AI just can't keep up terraforming at the rate I can, and I roflstomp him on all missions except those w/ close spawns. Secondly, if you can't stomp the AI w/ your army, you can generally just cast the extremely OP tidal wave until you win. Since high ground seems to be as cheap as low ground, just build your base higher; as a nice bonus, it seems it's also less affected by fire mountain that way.

Much in the genre of Motherload or Mars Miner; it has some interesting new spins to it. I like the quest system, and having actual NPCs, compared to the above-mentioned titles, but I miss the element of risk. Running out of fuel in Motherload could ruin your whole day, and since you couldn't dig upwards, you risked getting lost if you dug too randomly; then there were rocks and lava, and the dreaded gas pockets which I think most people die to on their first attempt(s); and the boss fight. In this game there's no way you're going to die, unless you're extremely careless. Ideas: radom hot-spots w/ increased heat near the surface (so you actually have to watch the heat meter), cheaper energy and (much) faster battery drain; spyluis' EMP idea is also nice, more equipment tiers and better balanced; coolant 1-3 is worthless and 5 is imba good; battery is almost worthless except as a cheap recharge. Maybe add enemies and weapons?

@Phreaky: Yes, that quest is a bit confusing; especially since the max inventory capacity you can get is 30 :-P. So just dig out the sand; you can see how much sand you've dug by pressing the J (jobs) key. When that shows 50/50 you're done.

Game is kind of meh; as a beginner it sucks that the tutorial is kind of a joke, and you're mostly left to figure things out on your own or read the forums to get some bearings. The interface is not very intuitive, though stuff is generally easy to get to once you know where it is. One example is you can click "switch" in the my vampire screen to switch out your already equipped power for a new one, but you have to go to the inventory menu to equip a new power in your unused power slot. Getting past this, the game has one or two nice ideas but generally feels really lacking in content (i.e. stuff to do), especially since your energy runs out so quickly. 2/5 for the game; I'll make that 1/5 since every negative comment is being censored by either fanboys or the likely even the devs.

@Bardock770: When you level up you buff your deck stats; each unit in your deck (including your champion) is then affected by your deck stats depending on its affinity to each. One of the top rated posts already explains how that works: a unit's affinity is bonus hp%/att%/def% from your deck stats, so if your deck stats are 500/500/500, a unit with 30/20/10 will get +150hp, +100att and +50def added to its base stats.

Also, this is more of a design flaw than a bug, but the energy transfer mechanic doesn't work well with the unit cap: if you manage to reach your unit cap, you can't spawn units anymore, therefore no energy gets transferred to your ability bar, and this makes it really hard to use abilities too; esp. since when you use any ability it will completely deplete your ability bar, moving the energy to your now useless unit bar.

The game feels a bit too random indeed, especially jungle brook which -- as pointed out by many others -- is by far the hardest. You need a lot of LUCK to beat that one no matter how much skill you have. For best results, play only games that start out well (-3 or less in the first round), and use your golf clubs proactively (i.e. whenever you have low odds of drawing a playable card but you can get a good combo w/ a golf club) during the final 2-3 rounds if you have a good score up to that point.

Controls glitch at times and feel clunky, especially aiming. I know this is inspired by MGS which is mainly on consoles, but seriously, PCs have more than 4 keys, AND mouse buttons. And as nice as it is to only have to mash one or two keys the whole game, with games like this that require precise and well timed actions it's really better to have separate keys for each action you can take, like hug the walls etc. Kinda sucks to try and duck behind a wall but end up coming around the corner instead, or try to sneak attack someone but tap the wall and draw his attention instead; for example, number keys for weapon select and maybe a separate key for the medkit would make a lot of sense instead of the x + LLL + x style weapon switching. A separate key for taking cover, and separate keys for attacks vs. actions like opening doors or tapping walls. On a brighter note though, thanks for being considerate in allowing us to change how the directional keys work.
