For anyone struggling to get the Hard badge, it's possible to score a decent amount higher than 87% on Level 2 by cutting a low slice across all three of the blocks on the base going down from left to right, then re-cutting the leftmost block in half so that the top part of that block crashes into the red block. If you do your initial cut low enough, you'll be able to score over 90% on that level.
