Whilst it takes a fair amount of grinding and careful management of your ships to level them up in later levels IT IS BY NO MEANS IMPOSSIBLE. I suspect many gamers who are used to flash games being less challenging than this one are posting comments here asking for the game to be changed into something closer to what they're used to, and that possibly they are making an assumption that because they aren't winning there is something wrong with the game. Personally I think the difficulty curve (although admittedly challenging) is fine and you have a great game here. Keep up the good work.
Great game! it's like speedball 2 with a tactical element, bravo. One niggling little thing though - why would Oliver Buckingham, star athlete capable of playing for almost any team in the top division decide he wants to play for the team that came 5th in the 4th division last season? and for that matter why would Simply Victory, best team in the league, decide to offer one of their star players to a close rival in exchange for a player who didn't look special against 4th division opposition? ;-) Bulldogs caught some lucky breaks on their way to the top but overall an excellent game!
Thanks for the tut! how would you achieve the same result with the text fields using AS3 and TLF text? I've looked around but so far not found out how to make TLF text fields show the variables "good" and "bad." My attack button was easy to get working but TLF seems to have completely changed things for text...
Wow. You made a 2d side scrolling strategy game that kept me engaged for hours! I normally regard this type of game as a massive let down but the style and content of My Little Army kept me coming back, nice job. Coupla things:
- it's often impossible to see which unit you're casting "giant" on.
- It's not immediately clear what the advantages of some of the classes are (eg warrior vs swordsman), even from comparing the statlines and especially in the early levels before you can crib the opponents unit statlines from your own.
- It's not clear what effect "Stop" has (if any).
And the spawning is super annoying. Ships don't just appear out of nowhere.
BUT having said all that - it's a bloody good game - we wouldn't ask for improvements if it weren't!
Change the name to "Age of Sail." At the moment it sounds like a farting competition in an old folks home
Fix the fluctuating prices so that it is still a viable option to play as an honest trader - at the moment the only way to make money is piracy
Fix the docking! sometimes I pull into port only to slam headlong against it and have to loop round till it arbitrarily decides I'm in the right place the dock.
Sometimes the ship will stop turning (even though I'm holding down the button) on change of camera angle and sometimes just randomly in the middle of a fight. I've lost battles because of this. If it's because I'm sailing directly into the wind then great, but please could we have some indication of which way the wind is blowing so we can avoid it?
Move the Iphone ad up to the top left hand corner where it won't be blocking some of the actual game HUD.
At last a half decent example of this kind of game. love the graphics, style etc. on the next one I'd like to see a move away from the dreaded 2d "strategy" into something with a genuine element of gameplay to it, but fun for half an hour nonetheless.
