For the job promotion: In the first round aliens are worth alot, you need to get around 35000 points to be promoted. For the second round, the faceless guys, there are bars on the left and right side of the box. If the bars are green and high up that's good, and orange/red is bad. You need to get around 25000 points to be promoted. For the third round, the bars strategy applies here as well. Green=good, red/orange not so much, but some characters are worth more (I think the men with faces in suits give the most points but I could be wrong). You have to get around 30000 points to be promoted.
The map for learning flight is not helpful at all... But the sign that says meditate at this dais and learn flight... Well it was sort of a dead giveaway :P
