The armor upgrade is worthless. I saw no real increase in being able to survive attacks from it, and at 2000 is way too expensive for not actually doing anything.

For the most part you're right, but the battle are actually randomized. I've seen the same gang attack me or defend against me, and have different stats each time.
The balance in this game is WAY off. I understand harder settings are supposed to be harder. But on Knight, in the span of 5 days, I bought 40 soldiers, 2 days later 31 of them abandoned their post and then IMMEDIATELY the next day I get attacked by 300 trolls?
How does that even make sense?

Actually, default IS Squire. You have to set it for super easy.
Also, the special characters that volunteer to help your city come way too early, you can barely afford them when they come around, and then when you can afford them, they stop coming.
Also, I don't think gaining badges gives you more upgrade points. I went back and redid a bunch of levels to get all the badges, and after about 7-8 levels, and gaining about 15 badges I didn't have before, I've only gained about 1-2 upgrade points.
Explanations/instructions would be helpful.
Someone said not clicking the speed button gives you the wisdom badge, but that's not it. I think the wisdom badge is given by placing your towers in a strategic enough way as to not waste money, or in a way that uses as little towers as possible. But I can't tell.
