I found the easiest way to beat the spartans was a missle tower w/ max speed and a nicely upgraded grenade launcher :)

I think the final tank upgrade is the shield that you get. I've been playing for a while past that and haven't upgraded again. I also don't know what the "biggest baddest" bubble is, but I killed it somehow because I got the badge w/o realizing it.

Haven't found much guardian gear. Easy game if you don't mind griding a bit. Fun to play with good artwork.
