On my second play of "Gentle" (my first after getting all options), I got really lucky and ended up getting a purple note, immediately followed by yellow madness, on a note-heavy point in the song! That alone gave me about 70x multiplier, putting me over 100x about 1/4 of the way through the song. With the options I chose, keeping that 100x became the hard part. >_< I ended that song with a little less than 200x multiplier, 59% of the notes, no red notes, and 7.85 million points. I thought that was pretty good, considering I was mostly just trying to keep my combo alive... XD Fun game overall. Might come back to it if I find any cool mp3s on the net.
Just completed the game (and, after several failed attempts of beating the final boss at all, beat him in the first round)! I'm not sure whether or not this is the best ending evar (definitely one of the better ones out there, though the carnage portion of it, while fitting, sort of ruins it for me). This game as a whole, however, was a huge nostalgia trip, and is definitely going straight to my favorites. I especially like how about half of the cast in the credits I don't remember even seeing in the game (now I want a game featuring Doc Brown and Clark Griswold, with cameo appearances by Guybrush Threepwood and The Fonz...). Then again, I haven't done all the achievements yet, so maybe they are cameos related to those...
lol. If you die on Level 10 on the return trip (so that you respawn at the Level 11 door), and then don't press anything, it appears that you will be in an endless cycle of death (or at least until you do something, anyways).
I only read that comment about doing two runs of each level when I was halfway through the Green Levels. At that point, I had done the game by getting all the bolts without dying, so I resolved to at least finish the Green Levels in the same manner, and then play the rest of the game using the two runs method. I succeeded at this, but level 30 was really painful compared to the levels preceeding it, and even the next couple of levels after it. Too steep a difficulty spike in my opinion, even if you were to use the two run method. One of the things that constantly gets me is how fast you move after getting the last bolt in a level. It's like the game instantly drinks a gallon of Red Bull, or something. Is the sudden speedup deliberate?
I don't know what to rate this...my gut says 2, but my brain says more because it was clearly done poorly for the irony, or something... :O --- I'll just abstain from rating. You made a really horrible game. Good job! :D
Excellent game! Just finished it, and ended up with 8/9 critters. I never did figure out what that grenade was for, so I suspect that has something to do with it. I don't think I'll go again, though, because I don't want to redo the Duck Shoot. To those who are less obsessive-compulsive than me: yes, the Duck Shoot does give you a critter for doing it in 10 shots (not wasting a shot). :(
Mel Gibson? Aw, I was hoping for someone cool! I don't know, maybe someone like Adam Savage, Alton Brown, Mike Holmes, or even Ty Pennington. The fact that it's Mel Gibson makes me sad. ;_; The rest of the game is cool, though. I particularly liked the explosion effect.
I like how we can dig for 24 hours each day, yet still have time at the village. ;)
Oh no! I'm on the top of this week's high scores for cheating death! I kept trying to beat the cyclops when I wasn't strong enough... D:
I love how just about every object responds to every verb, even the ones you get over the course of the segment. "Light broken jar", "Cook Beulah", "Save Television". Very interesting, overall.
@LokiGodOfFire: Just did it today, on my second try! :D I ended up completing it in 62 seconds. In all honesty though, I got a fairly decent layout that helped me memorize the exact locations of 4 or 5 pairs. Also, sorry to all about my rant earlier. That Mammoth was simply the point in the game where it stops going easy on you, when you really have to start using the forge system, being smart about your skills, and planning your battle strategies. Once you realise that it isn't just a difficulty *spike*, but rather a permanent increase, then you actually stop panicing and start planning. And then the game gets fun again. :D
Is that mammoth supposed to hand your rear end to you on a silver platter? I know I haven't done any grinding. I've only faced each foe up to this point once, but I've faced every single foe except for whatever is in the 30 badge area. I haven't had any major trouble this entire game (aside from the enemy right before the mammoth). I suffered ~20 deaths to that stupid mammoth. The fact that it summons random enemies on the enemy turn, and those enemies attack that same turn they arrive, and that those high level monoliths (if you're ever unlucky enough to have one come up, which I often was) are so absurdly powerful that they could be their own boss, made this fight an absolute nightmare. (Sorry for the rant, I just feel this boss is way too sharp a difficulty spike, as it's capable of destroying a fully buffed, fully healed team in one turn, if it summons the right help. I do like this game though, honest. I'll probably post a shining review when I'm done.)
I disagree. This is a fun game, yes. But at the same time, it's a very emotional game. I've rarely cried due to a game, but the ending brought tears to my eyes. It's beautiful. A game like this doesn't need one of those cliche hollywood-style happy endings. Instead, it got its point across, without feeling anvilicious (that is, to say, it did it in a way that wasn't heavy-handed). 5/5. It spoke to me.
