I found a glitch where you can get items from forging or dismissing without losing the ingredients/animal. Save the game before dismissing or forging, and put whatever item you get in the new item slot (square in the top right corner of the camp screen), then go to skills tab and from there quit to main menu without saving, when you reload that same save file the item will still be in the new item slot but without having to lose the animal/items you originally used to get that item. Using this trick you can turn 3 white eggs into any gold egg as many times as you want. Hope it helps.
