I enjoyed this game quite a bit but after encountering this bug for the third time I'm going to stop playing, regrettably. I've left the browser and come back to find that I still have 40 mortars and 40 jeeps (or however many I last purchased), but my ascension level is back to 1, along with my xp level. This is very frustrating and I hope it isn't happening to other people.
Agree with ravewarheit, the game feels a little broke because of that. Also I quit playing after I got all possible upgrades about 4 or 5 levels before the end. Really liked the cut scenes though!
