i'm completely stuck on the third gem. it doesn't seem to matter where I put my exp points or my towers the creeps kick my ass. When I finally get them, the boss does it. Help?

This game has the most ridiculous difficulty curve ever. Easy, easy, easy, brick wall that takes you 20 tries to beat.
