Overall this was a fun game.
Thanks for not making it an irritatingly long grinder.
Well done!
If you're making imporvements then I offer these for your consideration:
1 - An option to disable enemy HP display would be super helpful.
On some levels it became quite difficult to see the enemies nearby with all the HP bars covering up your shooter.
The hp box is often bigger than the enemy itself.
Perhaps just make the meter a thin line underneath the enemy rather than a giant box.
2 - Having the XP float back to the shooter creates confusion... at least for me... it add excess objects flying toward you when there's already a lot of activity on screen.
Just have the XP add to the meter instead of an unnecessary graphic.
3 - Lastly, The menu system was little awkward.
The achievements tab should be on the same screen as the upgrades screen so it's more intuitive.
I didn't even notice the tiny arrow on the levels screen until late in the game.
Regarding the balance issues in the game / RNG / luck / etc... if you look at the statistics button there's a whopping 14.675% win ratio across all the games played. I'm not saying the game should be made easy but that's a really low percentage of wins... it seems like that would give the dev a clue that things need to be re-balanced.
@e_cha: Thanks for all the updates till now. Just curious if you're working on further updates to the game if you're taking a break from it. Will the next update include some balance resolutions to combat in Hard difficulties as may previous suggestions have requested? Hopefully you have a new release coming out. I would love to see Chinese, French and Spanish nations become playable in Hard difficulty because as it is now those three nations either have no bonus or the bonus counts as a negative when playing Hard or Very Hard. Thanks in advance!
I agree with another post that suggested that Units be listed as X of Y.
In other words: Peasants: 3 of 10 or 3 / 10.
This would help greatly in managing resources.
Also, it would be nice to see the name of the chosen race somewhere... it's easy to mis-click and wind up playing a race you didn't mean to choose.
I also agree with the randomness aspect of harder difficulties.
I find that Mongols, Chinese, French and Spanish are extremely difficult to win with vs. Hard and Very Hard due to the poor benefits they receive.
It also seems like one of the recent updates caused the enemy army sizes in later years to start growing around year 34... without a lucky random light game.
Basically you can't overcome the heavy losses because resources are so finite that it's tough to get past year 35. If you do manage to live that long then year 48 or 49 is sure to wipe you out.
The balance between the later year enemy army size and the ability to recover from a heavy loss year is way out of whack.
@michael11567 You can change the mouse speed setting on your computer and slow it down. That helps a lot. ----- Alternatively you can pick a point on the level, hold the left mouse button, while holding the left button... click the right button twice to show the flash menu, then release the left button, move to where you want the line to be and left click again... you get perfect straight lines that way. It takes a few tries to get the hang of it but once you do it's pretty easy. Have fun.
Also:
Building the car is cool but being forced to look at all the tutorial text is really annoying. An option to disable it after you read it would be nice because it would be nice to build a car in a blank space without having to scroll around the window.
A feature to remove the ghost cars during the race would also be nice.
Personally, I don't care to rewatch my last race or my "best" (longest run) race.
Lastly, the title of the game indicates this is a racing game... so far it looks like a driving game with no real point other than seeing how far you can go.
Personally, I'd prefer to have the option to use the arrow keys to move / scroll through the Kongpanions.
Using the slider underneath is annoying.
Otherwise it works as advertised.
Nice job!
Thanks. No. Should I?
