The special abilities (bombs, extra life, etc.) need to be usable by keyboard buttons (1,2,3,4). Having to go and click them make it hard to not miss money.
To get the level 42 badge, just pause the game and wait til it catches up. This was you don't have to keep playing and survive for who knows how many levels til it catches up.
