I had the golden coin artifact issue as well. Then it hid science from me entirely. I can't tell if it's still collecting and I can't afford anything or it thinks I have none.
I got the easy badge in 2009. I got the last hard badge today, just over 10 years later. Admittedly, I started over a bunch of times when I got a new computer. Worth it.
This was great. I agree I liked being able to build something and hide out in water, but out racing them was a fun brain stretcher as well. Turn based might be a fun way to take it.
Great game, simple but clever. Some sort of awards or par system would be a great thing to add, but I already fell dumb for not figuring out the solution earlier, so maybe not.
