Decent game, but the battles are paced way too fast, especially one you get to a moderately high level. The final battle was ridiculous--between keeping an eye on my health and the availability of my scores, I simply didn't have time to pay attention to what I was fighting. I know there were several targets, but that's really all I can tell you. And the entire final battle took 10 seconds or so. Slow it down. (And yes, that's on high quality!)
Am I the only one who noticed that there's a straight line of sight from the locker room showers to the windows? I was totally expecting to catch one of the characters perving through the windows. Maybe in the second half...
I'd like this game a lot more if I could understand when glass blocks break and when they don't. Sometimes a block falling into another, or even just sliding along it, causes it to crack; other times, I'm able to drop glass blocks--or drop blocks into them--without any effect at all. Seems totally unpredictable.
The wall climb upgrade doesn't seem to do anything for my llama. Also, would be nice if you had more control over the height of your jump--longer you hold, higher you go. Would make it a little easier to deal with the maximum jump height upgrade.
Great series of games, but only gets 3/5 from me because many of the levels were very poorly vetted. As others have stated, a very significant number of them could be completed without using all the parts (levels 2 and 29 are very obvious examples, but there are plenty of others).
Oh, and it'd be great if we could get to the crafting screen without going to our house. You've put a lot of work into the crafting system, but it's a right bother to get into and out of it.
A good start to a game, but a fair number of rough edges. Some suggestions: Automatically open the chest that drops after battle--that extra click is annoying and pointless, especially after the first 1,000 times. Add successful recipes to the book (from one carpet recipe, I can figure out the others...but their spots remain sadly blank...?) Start defensive quests with the first wave of enemies on the field--not even casters can reach them before the second round. And the ability to cast spells outside of battle/drink stat-boosting potions outside of a dungeon would be great.
The controls aren't very responsive, and the fact that moving platforms don't seem to have any friction (since they don't move you) made for large amounts of frustration. Good effort, but still room for improvement.
Correction to masteringram's comment: Rank A = get the big white diamond before leaving the level; Rank B: get all small red and blue gems; Rank C: finish the level without all gems. Note that time and coordination have nothing to do with your rank.
Here's the strategy I used against the boss. Took the medic, fireman, and riot shield; I'm not sure if he uses stun or drowsiness (he definitely tried for poison), but wanted as much protection as possible. Tossed a gas grenade at the start, then used the bug repelent & healed as necessary; otherwise, just kept blasting with the alien gun's second attack.
I was going to point out that the giant robot only has 25 HP, whereas every other large creature has 80 or 100. But then I found a more glaring issue: you get the exact same congratulations screen--complete with the "amirite" taunting about unlocking all characters--even after unlocking all 314 of them. For everyone's sanity, stop playing once you've got the badges...there's no reward for doing anything more.
I want my life back.
Wow, an amazing number of people can't read the help (which the tutorial pulls you through) to see that you can scroll the screen. Zooming out would be a nice option, though. As for all the babies whining about not having a melee weapon: you get land mines really early. Walk up to the guy, drop a mine at his feet, and walk away. Great game!
icesoul56's walkthrough is simply a copy of the walkthrough that Bart posted on his own site (http://www.bartbonte.com/abonteescape/walkthrough.html). We don't let people steal games, why should he get credit for stealing the walkthrough?
There's a truly amazing number of commenters who point out that this game is like Shadow of the Colossus. I say amazing because all of these people apparently failed to read the FIRST SENTENCE OF THE DESCRIPTION OF THE GAME, where the author wrote, "...and in the process pay tribute to my absolute favourite game on the PS2, Shadow of the Colossus..."
