Painful. It took me a few hours to get to level 50. Keep in mind that when you're stuck at the very end of a level, it's always because there's two loose ends left, so you have to "move" one of the loose ends via adjacent connections to get to the other.
Like some other shooters figuring a closed map, no new enemies are spawn when a certain limit is reached (probably to avoid lag issues), and you can use this limitation to your advantage in survival. All you have to do is keep the slowest enemies at the center of the map and go from corner to corner without shooting.
As it is hard to see the difference between enemies and particles, the best strategy indeed is to stay in one corner. There is no spawning there, you're protected on two sides, and you only have a quadrant to cover with your laser.
Quite a fun challenging game, with a great background music. I actually finished it with four lines of bonuses. Here's some strategy tips :
1. Bonuses - Try to make as much rewarding harmony sets (4 of each shapes/colors, or both) or pool sets (10+ of shapes/colors, or both) as possible, depending on the constraints. It will give you jokers that you can use in a cylic way. Specifically, when you're stuck at the last tile of a level, the idea is to use one joker on the tile which permits you to construct a set that will give your joker back (plus some other bonuses).
2. Circle - Take care of the hardest constraints first, then try to make an arc whose ends fit together. It simplifies the construction of the circle because you can rotate tiles from one side to the other until you find a place to put the tile you want.
3. Mistakes - Before placing the last tile, click on each tile and see if the resulting animation shows that it fits. That way you will quickly verify your puzzle.
Easier than expected. Here's some tips :
1. Shop - Save for the minigun. You can buy the shotgun, the uzi, or the assault rifle if you feel like you don't have enough fire power.
2. Fight - Don't kill everyone immediately. The spawning rate of the enemies seems to depend on how many are on the map and you can reduce this rate to nearly zero. From the start, turn in circles around a group of enemies placed at the center without firing at them (except for those who are faster than you) while pointing your weapon at the nearest border to take care of the newcomers. When you don't encounter any new enemies, kill one at the center and you'll see a few spawning as a result. Using this technique it will allow you to play the game at your own pace.
Some tips
1. Class : Necromancer is to me the easiest class to win. You can poison and drain health from your enemies from the start, summon skeletons to have an army of creatures to fight for you, and canibilize to sacrifice health for mana.
2. Food : You can use wishing wells and scrolls of acquirement to obtain 3xFood each time. Don't consume food unless you really need to (no health potions or fountains, or hunger with mid health).
3. Fight : Use the surroundings to your advantage. Bring your enemies into unstable tiles. In melee, try to stand next to water. In range, hide behind a pillar or something that will block the line of sight of your enemies. Use stairs or corridors to fight them one by one. And above all, don't rush if you don't know what you're doing.
4. Skills/Talents : Don't disperse yourself. Use the points according to your character strenghs and weaknesses.
The reason why it's so difficult to move is that sometimes you have to click to turn around but sometimes the game does it for you. It often led me to some places I didn't want to go. Otherwise, it's a great game, inspired by Myst, and probably the most difficult of all that has been released by the developer unto this day.
Considering the kind of difficulty this game presents, it would have been fun to put an abstract art painting like Kazimir Malevich's Black Square. Many people don't get it : D
If you don't know why Damien is so evil, you should read the novel entitled The Exorcist (1971) or watch its movie adaption, The Omen (1976). It turns out that this novel is the reason why the name "Damien' is so unpopular today, and the name itself probably was chosen because it comes from the ancient greek "Damianos", derived from a verb meaning "to conquer'.
For those who didn't know there was a Stephen King reference, you should read The Shining. And for those who didn't understand some of the game's logic, I'd say it's all about rotation but I'm not going to spoil the fun.
Sorry for the bad comment. I guess i was having a bad day, and something offended me, surprisingly. Thank you for this game and the atmospheric music it has. I wish I could have typed some shell commands to find easter eggs or to hack some parts but it's already fine without. An hommage to text-based adventure games.
- DO YOU CONSIDER THIS A WORTHWHILE USAGE OF YOUR TIME? PLAYING A GAME INSTEAD OF BEING PRODUCTIVE?
- And making this game is ?
- You're confusing me. Try something different.
