Actually what i think is that the boy got in a coma and got trapped in his own mind and the proof is the markings on the house like "this world is not real'' and the bird, I think the bird was actually a guide out of his mind. I think they should allow you to have 3 health kits (maximum) and then press e to heal that would be better than running for your life to the health kits.
