I thought of a simple feature I'd like to see on OE4: Lock. Basically a feature that locks your units preventing it to be sold. Basically a safety measure.
DONE. Hardened mode campaign without any upgrades. It is possible by spamming out rifles like no tomorrow. Occasional officer is helpful but not always needed. If the enemy tank is at a flank, IGNORE IT. Better to get flanked by a tank than losing so much against it.
Surprise surprise! I finally got what I wanted. Beat all Alien Campaign with default equipment (except point allocator which doesn't do anything direct anyway). You've really got to keep dominating shields and buffs and manage your weapons pretty well.
While there's no screenies or whatever to prove, I'd say it's up to you to believe whether it's possible or not (since I don't really record). Ammo ability isn't actually that bad for rockets too.
It's hilarious how I came back to this game and managed to beat everything with just scouts and bombers. It's just a proof that weapon upgrades are the main thing in this game. The catch is that humans have to outplay with emp/cloak (lots of distractions), xeyed with lv2 convert followed by rage (this is hilariously powerful if you coordinate converted units with your units), and awlon should not grab warp because it is too expensive. Just make sure you send bombers first since they're slower.
The game became a joke when you learnt how to exploit instant reload switch. you can unleash a hell of rockets in split seconds and pretty much solo survival with it.

Er... I mean another challenge. no flag captures (both CTF and domination), stock gear (default weapons, no gear), starter only on human campaign. Think you've got enough map mastery and M9 Barret skill?
Shields and prefiring may be important on Alien Stage 14, though I'm yet to reach that stage yet.
Probably Alien Stage 15 would be the hardest challenge to date, maybe cycling through all 3 different buffs and shields would be the quick getaway to the stock equipment challenge.

so far I've beat Alien campaign 11 with stock equipment, but guess the hardest come at 15 since the only potent weapon is rocket launcher (and shotgun, in case invisible) since .50 cal isn't reliable.
Has someone attempted a full playthrough of alien campaign with the starting equipments only? (no equipment, ability set on ammo, weapons are the free weapons of each category)
Trying out no-offense team (basically not even going to attack at all), relying on all kinds of random skill procs and counters. Found out that defending tactics (the one that provides yellow guard) disables counterattacks.

Guess that 20 red ship on middle had real nice time witnessing they lost all planets and they cannot do anything to it. Apparently, these blue guys cannot use warps too.

Reflective Armor (only on non-fighters)
Reduces Laser damage taken by 40% and returns 30% of damage received back to attacker. Does not return damage to fighters.
@BaumProductions that is pretty much the hardest scenario, worse the more freeze rays able to hit main station directly. Just ignore that stage because it's almost impossible regarding that you can't arty rush one without getting overwhelmed by the other side.
Even worse if the other side is orange/green
