Regarding my previous comment: If this was meant to be a parody of those absurd games that don't realize there's a difference between "difficulty" and "frustration", then I take everything back and will give this a higher rating. If not, however, then please take my criticism into account.

Interesting concept, though it was rather easy. I was disappointed at the lack of music, but oh well. 3/5.

Agh, link didn't work. Go to "www.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/FakeDifficulty" if you want to see what "fake difficulty" is.

This game is not difficult. It does not require skill. It only requires patience. There is a difference between challenge and shallow gameplay-lengthening schemes that serve only to frustrate the player. The only thing to do in this game is to walk forward until you find an invisible trap, then restart and avoid the trap, and keep going until you find another invisible trap. There's no way to see or dodge the traps in advance; if there were, then this game would be legitimately challenging and I would give it a higher rating. But this gets a 2/5 from me for utilizing far too much Fake Difficulty. (If you want to see a platformer that is actually challenging, gamers, try the Raider series)

omg impossible 1/5 < /sarcasm > Seriously though, it's quite hard. I can't get past level 10. I suppose the point is to be hard though. :p It's good to see someone make something that's actually difficult; too many games these days, browser games included, are pathetically easy and it probably has a negative effect on peoples' mindsets; Raider, another hard but very good game got scathing comments and poor ratings simply because people couldn't take the fact that the game actually took some skill to beat, for whatever reason. I'm glad that levels aren't too long; building difficulty based on forcing the player to repeat long sections if they fail is neither challenging nor fun, merely frustrating. The game did border on this at times, though; I would have liked more checkpoints. Still good though, 4/5.

The third minigame is really buggy. The arrow keys keep freezing up and I can't do anything. Also, why is everyone complaining about how you can't use the Shift key to shift anymore? You can, it's what I use. Even if you couldn't, it's such a minor semantic that it's really not worth rating the game down over.

Argh. The lag is really awful. Would it be possible to implement a quality button? I also agree that the door animations are far too long. 3/5, would be 4/5 if it weren't for the buggy blocks and lag.

I also agree that the graphics don't suit the series well. I usually don't care about graphics, but having detailed platforms and shading on the main character ruins the monochrome effect that the previous games had. And yeah, it's just not the same without the Portal-like voice taunting you. :(

Nephron, the complaints aren't about the difficulty, but about the omnipresent, crippling lag. That's a hardware problem, and not something the player has any control over whatsoever. I can personally attest to this; the game lags badly on my computer and it's very frustrating.

I just beat level 14; I think the key is to make a beeline for the jaw mutator and then nuke things from afar. I managed to quickly destroy all the enemy bees once I got there; not sure if that's a sure-fire way to win, though. (BTW, I found level 14 harder than the final boss...)

Level 10 in particular is really bad due to the fact that you'll be on the mutators for practically the entire level, and due to the fact that they reduce your speed and agility to 0, your bugs are practically stationary. I would recommend taking the top hex first, then going in a clockwise or counter-clockwise direction, taking as many hexes as possible before you hit enemy territory. If you can capture enough hexes in time, you can overwhelm them with sheer numbers, since most of the bugs can't really hurt you. That level really is determined by your actions in the beginning; if you can gain the upper hand quickly, you win, if you take to long, you lose.

Ugh, level 14 is impossible for me. No matter what I do, I just get swarmed. I agree that the control interface is very counter-intuitive; there needs to be a hotkey for selecting the entire swarm at once. I find mutators to be more harmful than beneficial, too, since they reduce your bugs to blind slugs within the span of a few seconds, which kind of offsets any potential benefit. It would be better if there was a way to quickly move your bugs off of a mutator after they've gotten to the point you need, since I find that they get stuck on mutators and don't want to go anywhere else, especially due to the aforementioned slowness. It just causes a viscous cycle. Evolution is also completely random and you have no control over it; in a fast-paced game like this, you really can't wait to see which ones you should breed. Still fun though, 4/5.

Actually, Pish, he has a right to express his opinions and there's nothing wrong with that. Games, like any other form of art, ARE capable of being "picked apart" and in fact I feel that constructive criticism can be extremely helpful. Just because you disagree with him doesn't make him wrong. He was being rather rude and shallow, but don't demonize him on the grounds that critiquing games is a bad thing, because it isn't.

I'm glad that someone finally had the courage to call the community out on the absurd, binary, and unfair ways that they rate things. So many things in this game are sad because they're true. You sir deserve a medal. (Ironically, the target audience is unlikely to "get it", which will probably lead to them rating it low anyway...which is kind of sad and funny at the same time.)

Hm...the hard badge is really unnecessarily difficult in places, since you have no choice but to kill many of the enemies because they block narrow passageways. (And do the bosses count as kills?)

This is very good! Reminds me a bit of Loved. The bizarre creepiness of your guide lying to you is not totally original, but I still like the trope, and I also like how you subvert standard platforming mechanics. Very interesting. Kongregate really needs a category for "philosophical games".

Hm... You don't really balance the violent/pacifist options very well. It's very obvious that the game is meant to be played violently, since many of the game options and upgrades relate to that. As someone who always tries to play pacifist routes in games that give the option, this was kind of a let-down. The game also has a tendency to drag on for a long time. Repetitive, nigh-identical levels with the only goal being to gather money is very dull and boring, especially since you rarely have to change your tactics and either go for an all-out assault (which doesn't even work in later levels) or try to play around with the lights and wait for all the scientists to go away. This game had a lot of potential, but I unfortunately did not find it very enjoyable.

@ Deathcommander: Hm... I don't think it's really fair to compare them. MARDEK is a very typical, standard RPG in terms of gameplay, while Genesis focuses on new, "exciting" features and a tactical RPG system. I also feel that MARDEK has a better storyline (the dialogue in Genesis has a tendency to feel kind of stilted or awkward, especially at the beginning). Is there really a need for "competition", though? They're both very good, and Pseudolonewolf doesn't care much about the whole "competition" thing (except for Sonny, though for more specific reasons).
