For level 5, build as many reactors as you can and then use lots of launchers - you don't need any repulsors/blasters because of the way the fields are positioned. 20+ launchers will clear up the creeper pretty quickly.

For people having difficulty on any maps with high densities of creeper - use lots of launchers, and build reactors everywhere you can (be sure to dig out space for more reactors too).

@Nick1282 Of course it's easy to escape from survival mode - but that doesn't really mean anything. The goal in survival mode is to stay there for as long as possible (the emitters gradually grow stronger over time - at the start of survival mode they're 100 intensity, and every 15 minutes they go up another 100 intensity)

@ dead_man27 (a few days ago- but still) It's possible to reach 7 days around October 2010 if you play while disconnected from the internet in addition to the days that are normally reachable, so having played ~25 days is legitimately possible.

@Foxboxx If there's something wrong with your internet connection then it will not be able to find a date and default to October 2010 - it does not use your computer time so people can't change their computer clock to access new levels.

@nattyfrank there is no actual height limit (that will ever be reached anyway) - it just doesn't display the height properly past a certain amount - the creeper will still continue to go higher.

@brentfail yeah pretty much - drones are pretty much just better than mortars (except that drones need to be used manually so if you don't like microing stuff then you should stick to mortars). The few cases mortars are better than drones blasters are usually better than both, so just using blasters and drones usually works the best.

@ brentfall It's possible to last well past that if set up properly - the key is to use lots of drones, and position your blasters well to make sure htey do not shoot creeper they do not have to. Drones are the most energy efficient at killing high densities of creeper (trust me on that one - you can find the math done on that somewhere on the knucklecracker forums), so you want to find a way to spend as much of your energy as possible on drones. http://i.imgur.com/CRZZE.png - the map I did this on was Nov. 18, 2011, I lost control of the map at about 1250 intensity but dragged it out to about 1350. Another small thing to notice is that I position my buildings like collector-> reactor -> collector, instead of directly connecting the collectors to save space. Most of my blasters are positioned that they will only fire just when the creeper overflows the higher terrain.

@ Hlaode If you don't wantm to micro, then all there is to do is use a few blasters and a lot of mortars defending higher terrain (make sure the blasters only start shooting the creeper when it overflows, otherwise you will be wasting energy ie. have the blasters just short of being able to shoot the lower terrain). That said, to get a really good score you *NEED* to use lots of drones, because drones are the most energy efficient at killing creeper (and for some reason my mission time keeps being taken down - it is not a hacked time :/) http://i.imgur.com/CRZZE.png

@Acolyte2100 Essentially first you gain energy equal to collection (capped by storage!) before the depletion, so if you have no storage buildings you will only gain 20 energy per second - and then you can only send out 20 packets per second. As I've said a few posts back, even with storage you will still not be able to go past 32 depletion however.

@Kazan_Epic The OC can't send out any more than 32 packets per second - deficit is the number of packets that have been requested that have not yet been sent. Any energy collection above +32 does essentially nothing (apparently the last time I said this it was down-rated, but down-rating it will not change the game mechanics).

As far as having a huge deficit while collecting more than you're spending - you can't send out more than you have as a storage maximum, and you can't send out more than 32 packets/second ever - this means you'll need at least 1 storage building if you want to send out as many packets as you can, and having more than +32 energy collection is pointless.

@alanek2002 the emitter intensity increases over time in survival mode - you *will* lose at some point (assuming no hacks etc. are involved). 100 intensity emitters are pretty easy to deal with, it gets interesting once it starts reaching 600+.

To give people an idea of what's possible in survival mode: http://i.imgur.com/CRZZE.png This run through was done on the knucklecracker website using Nov. 18, 2011 - I finally lost at 4:05:32. The blasters that are disarmed I only turned on if the creeper started overflowing - drones are the most energy efficient at killing dense creeper.

As far as survival mode goes, keep in mind you can't send out more than 32 packets per second (so don't bother going above +32 energy), and I will recommend to use *lots* of drones if you want to last a very long time (it's possible to survive well past 1000 intensity emitters potentially - you can see the intensity of the emitters where the survival mode button used to be). Be sure to take advantage of the terrain as much as you can and make the most of splash damage (a big factor in that regard is that any weapon firing at lower terrain will not splash any creeper on the terrain above it).

I don't remember having too much trouble on 2-5 - I didn't build any ships and I used freezers on all sides (along with many different weapons - I ended up with a lot of the gauss cannons since I had an excess of energy since fusion cores are a lot easier to build than accumulators), but in any case, the freezers help a lot in preventing them from infesting the buildings. Balance in this game could use quite a bit of work, and it isn't at all clear what the buildings actually do in episode 3 (most of the defense buildings seem to do the exact same thing with different costs? I don't even know what the point of the repair shop is in episode 3 either). Building more space stations is completely useless because you can't possibly afford to dump 2000 energy/mass into it unless you're already winning by a landslide, and bombers seem a bit overpowered in the first episode before all the infested stuff (infested are ridiculously overpowered in general, though I suppose that was intended).

@ Fizzle_412 yeah, there don't seem to be many farms. I recommend turning all the suburbs into farms since lots of buildings can become apartments - especially on harder difficulties where farms only give 2 food (without research).

@Exosus the maps in this were designed that you wouldn't need to move the city (Blast from the Past actually required you to move the city originally, but one of the emitters was removed so it was no longer necessary in CW:US) - but it will certainly improve your time on a lot of maps by moving the city regardless - for 'Roots of evil' for instance it's possible to just build relays/collectors and connect all the totems if you move the city and position everything carefully without needing to fight the creeper at all.
