I haven't seen the interest system in more than just a few TDs. It does add a new level of strategy - well at least in the other TDs that use it :p This one is pretty easy, but it was still a decent game.
I liked the game, but Id really like to see a new version with more missions that are more challenging.
The mother ship mission was cool though - it gave you reason to alter your strategy for a more 'mission like' feel.
I agree with Martin, it just doesn't seem right to have those things spawn right on top of you (or rather 1 pixel away from the direction you were moving).
I mainly like how a sudden 'boss' jolt will run out in most of the levels. Usually in games like this, once you have it you have it. In this one, if you shoot for the goal to soon, it can screw you.

I'm trying various strats, but I always seem to get lost at level 56-58 on any map. People are saying pinapples are the way to go on MOABs, but I just don't get that unless they do over 15 damage (since spikes will do 10 at 2/3s the cost). Of those getting into the level 60s and above, how many super monkeys do you already have by level 56ish?
