Kudos to Kongregate for reviving our old favorite Flash games on the Ruffle platform. Thank you so much. Generally speaking, it works great. It seems to be more stable... no more freezing/crashing.
However, we have lost the Top Score updates. This is especially sad for a game like Hordes because that is kinda the point of the endless mode; to try to set a new top score for the day/week/all-time.
I find it personally disappointing because I currently hold the 3rd highest combined top score, yet I have actually smashed that score. I may give more detail in a later post.
Still, it's a fun game. Don't listen to the haters. Most of them just haven't figured out the game.
Port order:

Attack with cash in hand and use powder or dynamite for an unfair advantage
I would recommend that players begin in the "easy" mode. It's a fair challenge to make it through on "easy". I can't imagine how tough it might be to get all 5-star ratings on "hard".
Hey Bulbaswat - yeah, it takes a little while to get going. I suggest that you work your way through the game levels in the "Normal" mode, then go back later to play endless if you still feel like it. In the Normal mode, the waves are the same each time you replay a level. In "Endless" mode they are somewhat random. You may have just gotten an unlucky mix after your earlier 106 wave run.
The experience payback is better in the Normal mode too, for the amount of time required to play a level. "Forest Clearing" is fairly easy and gives eight level-up items. (Watch out for wave 21... have "Prone" spell ready)
Levels increase with experience (no duh), experience increases with damage, damage increases with power. Therefore, you will gain levels faster if you level up your power stat and ditch the beginner guns ASAP.
Here's a challenge, and a fun way to gain some experience towards the insane, "Maximize All Skills" Award. Replay each level for a "Brilliant" score using only one type of tower (green/blue/red). It CAN be done and it may lead to a new appreciation of each tower type. It is really sweet to vaporize a Big Ninja with a single volley from a formation of maxed-out catapults in Level 12, The Caves.
Hey, Beegum - you will find that even with 2x speed, the game slows (and sometimes even crashes) in the "endless" mode, when the entire screen is filled with monsters and defenders. I believe that it is a fundamental design problem that would require a major rewrite to correct. (That ain't gonna happen). So get something to read, or listen to a newscast while you wait. As another poster so aptly put it, "Anonymous games tend to be a grindfest".
I hear a lot of complaints... the game is not perfect. SO WHAT. Life is not perfect. Suck it up and get on with it. This game has a lot going for it: here is a tower defense game where YOU GET TO CREATE THE ENEMY'S PATH OF ATTACK. That's kinda new.
A lot of the complaints I hear are from people who don't yet understand the game basics. Sorry, but if it was easy, it would be boring. This game rewards a thoughtful approach.
So here is MY challenge for you wannabe heros: I, FROGSPIT (The Mighty Conqueror), am the holder of the All Time Combined Top Score. Let me see you beat it. Come-on, I dare you. I know for a fact, that there is potential to improve my top score.... I even promise that I won't boost my score until September 1st, 2012. Just to give you a fair shot.
Well... what's it gonna be ???
News Flash: the "Endless Mode" isn't truly endless.... There are 300 waves on the first map.
When I got to wave 250, I looked to see what was ahead. The final wave was Shrooms with over 800 MILLION hit points. I made it only as far as wave 261 when I was wiped out by a wave with the infamous "Anti-Magic Field".
Score for map 5.47 million. Reward: pitiful.
Oh, Balmafula... you got 204,800 hero experience points (!?) Wow! You must have put in a LOT of effort to get there. The bad news is that your hero is a level 10 already. That's it. No more.
Now got outside and get some fresh air. :)
