Still the most polished of the Tower Defense brigade.
Can't say I'm a massive fan of the underpowered tech tree, but that's the point of Protector. You have to get better at the game to progress, unlike other games where getting further into it makes it easier.
Good, but the interface is pretty terrible.
Also, it would be nice if the base had an energy bar rather than lives, so that fast, weak enemies damaged it less, and the big boys damaged it more.
Words need to:
(A) Spawn on the screen before their target ninja, so you can read the whole word immediately.
(B) Move across the screen in jumps, so that fast-moving ninjas don't have the advantage that you CAN'T READ THE FRIGGIN' WORD
Game needs to have a Sell button, not just a "Oh, I double-clicked, there goes an ass-load of money" sell
Also, not nearly enough feedback on what's going on. I think enemies are getting stronger over time, but by how much?
Play Gemcraft for info on how to do this kind of game right.
Controls are horrible.
"Enemy" spawns at the goal and can go either way, and so you have either a 25% or 50% chance of randomly losing the game as you near the end of the level. Random deaths are not fun.
Doesn't give any initial build time.
Forces you to use an initial, badly-laid out defense, which gets blown up.
No paths for the creeps.
There's a lot better out there than this.
2 stars. 1 because it works at all, and the second because I'm feeling generous.
Well, it's interesting, but you have to remember that games have been compensating for player momentum since Asteroids, meaning that this game is trying to singlehandedly break the habit of around 30 years of gaming experience which has taught developers the valuable lesson that automatic compensation for momentum is more fun than doing it your way...
Shooting seems a bit glitchy in mission six. I had a bullet quite obviously go through the bodyguard's head at one point, but no death. Shot him again, and when he fell the two bullet-holes were very close together.
The can't-fire-in-mission-9 "bug" seems pretty well noted in comments already. As has been said, probably best to simply re-equip previous settings.
Fantastic game, though.
I can't really see how this game could be much more than it already is.
Would be nice to see higher difficulty, and multiple opponents (haven't finished it yet, if there are multiple opponents, then awesome).
At the moment though, you can win by just burying your opponent in attacks. Win-by-spam.
Don't get me wrong, I think the game is awesome, and I would love to see any cool addons you want to add, I just can't see myself what those might be. Great work, though.
Would be nice to be able to queue hero orders using the shift key.
Traps should be 3x3 in size, 3* more expensive to buy and upgrade; because there is no set enemy route, it is very difficult to place them effectively.
Market carts frequently get stuck ON EACH OTHER for several seconds at a time. There seems to be no reason for this other than to screw me over. Market carts should not collide with each other, if possible. Colliding with enemies and heroes is fine though, obviously.
AAAAAAAAAAAAGH!
I had the music turned off because it is UNBELIEVABLY LOUD and there's no way to lower the volume, then I finished the level and it turned back on at full volume!
I nearly had a heart attack!
Put in a volume control, or have the music activation be a permanent setting.
I had this at a five, but it's getting set to 1 until that's fixed.
