Fun game to play through, though the puzzles lack depth. Designing levels required creativity; the designer had to dream up possible chain reactions. Playing levels takes far less creativity; you're told what abilities you have to use, and there aren't many possible ways that a given ability can be used to kill eggs.
If I might try to offer constructive criticism: Add an "Easy Mode". I find this game slightly easier than "Hard Mode" in other Tower Defense games. Personally, I find it to be a good challenge, and I don't want you wrecking a good challenge by making everything easy. You went to the trouble of making a cool game, though, so you might as well add an easier mode for the more-casual Tower Defense fans. Regarding premium content: Ignore the person complaining about it; those of us who work for a living understand that you work for a living, too.
To people frustrated by ghosts: As a rule, build 1 mage at the beginning and end of each path. Once golems stop spawning, you can upgrade those mages, and they're a solid DPS source against pretty much everything. I agree: this game's damage type system is pretty uninteresting. Also, the splash/non-splash dichotomy is uninteresting. I do find the wipe out mobs/take down giants dichotomy quite interesting, though, so maybe we can overlook that uninteresting aspect as we hope for a sequel that's even more fun.
Here's how I'm getting 3 stars in later levels: Max hero attack, hero speed (especially for dragons), cannons, mages, swordsmen, and all spells. Buy some hero health (he doesn't need it maxed if you keep mobs off of him while he fights giants). Buy as much Leadership as you can (I think it improves his attack speed, plus the attack speed of every swordsman attacking the same giant). On most maps, monsters split lanes pretty well, so as a general rule, keep your towers about the same level (no level 4 towers if you still have level 2 towers, for example). Occupied build spots are good for early money. Once build spots are cleared, hero's only job is to kill giants.
In response to yes/no questions, the AI does not seem to accept complete sentences-- for example, "I do", "I am", "I do not", "I am not" are not recognized.
Is there any reason to use archer towers? I'm about halfway through the game, but so far I'm finding little use. Cannons + Mages seems to be the winning DPS combination, especially against late-level giants like trees and horses. I feel like I'm better off skipping archers altogether and investing those upgrade points in my hero.
I don't care how bored you are after several way-too-easy levels; don't hit the "Give Up" button. It ends the game with an even-more-boring, unskippable segment. It's an annoyance masquerading as a gameplay mechanic; for that, I drop my rating from a 4 (let's face it: It's an okay platformer, but it's not top-tier) to a 2.
Wow! It's like this game was designed by someone who actually appreciates a tricky platformer! Great work. Personally, I'm finding the difficulty about right. Sure, I can get through any given level within 5 minutes, but that's because I'm able to retry each trap immediately.
Fun game. 5/5 for successfully combining other TD elements and adding a couple of your own twists. There might be a balance issue, though. I still need to play through on Very Hard difficulty, but on lower difficulties, I'm finding the later levels a bit repetitive. 2-4 skeleton archer barracks rallied on the children makes a solid defense; add a totem of wealth, and there's no shortage of money for covering the rest of the map with upgraded puddles and watchtowers.
The game froze the first time I tried to enter a battle, and I had to reload the page. Now, the game has frozen on a loading screen as I leave my first battle. Both times, it looks like it's stuck trying to load. I guess I could change this if the game gets fixed, but for now 1/5 for the fact that it's unplayable. In case it helps, I'm running Chrome on Windows 7, 8GB, 3.07GHz (which *shouldn't* be a problem).
The troops say lines from Warcraft 3 that don't make any sense in this context. For example, the Warhammer says, "Now you're endangered." That's funny in Warcraft, because it's a panda saying it; here, it's just sad.
I wish it were harder, but I guess there's only so much you can do: By the game's very nature, rushing to grab clouds and upgrades is always the winning strategy. Fun game, but easy and short.
It's a 1v1 puzzle/strategy game, but the more experienced player gets an advantage over the less experienced player. I guess the game isn't geared toward players who enjoy a solid challenge.
Sorry, but the wrong counting of missions bug isn't fixed; I'm displaying all 30 missions finished, but my count is only 29. Unfortunately, I don't know when the error happened. Maybe it was when I landed on Mars on the same launch that I completed another mission?
I just noticed how diligent the developer has been about acknowledging criticism in these comments, and that includes both the the things people like and the things people think could be improved. There's yet another thing to like about Iriysoft!
PLEASE add a "hard mode". This game is awesome for casual players, but the diehard RTS players find it way too fast and easy. In hard mode, winning should be harder and take longer. Currently, I can bulldoze across most maps with just 2-3 squads, healing at each town they capture; slow me down by 1) nerfing in-town healing, and 2) requiring siege weapons to capture some CPU-held towns. Nerf the player version of most upgraded units. Nerf acolytes' and wizards' freeze ability. Increase the cost of most low-tier spells. Nerf the resource bonuses from Magic Academy, Ducal Sovereignty, and 3 Days to Plunder. Give the computer more defending squads the fewer towns it has (the mission shouldn't become trivially easy once I have half the map). This is a great game in many ways. I especially like how troops commit to a fight (the game is more about strategy than tactics). Just please add a hard mode.
The veteran RTS crowd will find this game obscenely easy. I know I did. Giving credit where it's due, this is another brilliantly-crafted game from Iriysoft, and I appreciate that Flash has not traditionally been a good platform for RTS games. For the sake of us obsessive RTS players, though, I would ask that some kind of challenge mode be added. Bigger maps with more nodes (i.e. towns)? Stronger enemies? Both would help. As-is, the game let me get mostly Perfect ratings my first time through.
Will add harder levels in a sequel for sure.
