@Kemyx: Most people learn to give meaningful criticism. This game is trite, and boring. I suspect that it would require a very uncultured person to believe that this is "deep".
Kemyx, Those who are rating poorly don't necessarily do it out of ignorance. It's possible that they simply don't like the game. It's similar to when someone tells a bad joke. It's not that I don't get it, it's just that it's not funny. To throw an ad hominem into this post: The majority of people insulting others for not understanding the game don't seem to understand spelling or grammar.
I cried during Ol' Yeller, because I was emotionally attached. This game just made me annoyed that the author would so clumsily try to manipulate my feelings.
I don't know about everyone else, but I rate the games here based on how fun they are to play. This wasn't particlarly fun. The "message" that the game implies is banal, and uninformed. I want to pat the author on the head and say "Aww, is someone studying humanities at uni?"
@klyxes Protect the family and die first, let the family die first, or retreat to your space ship. They are all brief, and make an attempt to make you feel sad.
@gutbolt This game is hardly a Rorschach test. There isn't any correlation between open-mindedness and enjoyment of this game. Many people closed-mindedly think humanity as a whole is bad. I'll bet this game appeals very much to that crowd. Some people are open minded to art, but expect to see games on a games site.
Those who don't like this, aren't necessarily ignorant, unintelligent, dispassionate people. Neither are the people who like it necessarily educated, intelligent, compassionate people.
Killerind, I don't think there is anything to figure out. Unlike "Company of Myself" (which had a poignant story, and good gameplay) This just "game" just implies a story, and doesn't have any gameplay at all. Hold a directional button and watch. It's mildly amusing to see the three choices this interactive art peice offers.
@gibson I actually am Plato, using an Atlantean time machine to travel to a coffee shop in Barcelona, so that I can use their wifi. The Atlanteans never really got wireless right, and so the academy goes without internet. I love flash games! Whoo!

After reading more comments, I have to add an opinion. Even if you think it's a wonderful and compassionate story with good artwork, it doesn't deserve a high rating as a game.
If it wins the weekly prize, I'll post a flash version of "Great Expectations" by Charles Dickens. Maybe I'll even illustrate it with three colors.
Interesting piece of interactive art. I think that those who are giving it 1 for not being a game are right, but so are the people giving it high scores for being good art. I'm going to give it a 1, but that's because even though I find it aesthetically pleasing, it isn't particularly good or original as art.
Keep improving on your art, but please don't post it on game sites.
Finally got all the badges. I discovered this game about six months ago, got the easy badge and walked away. About three weeks ago, I picked it up again. It's been a long hard slog through the impossible badge, and I probably wouldn't done it if this game wasn't ridiculously fun.
Seriously?! My comment got removed? The humorous one? One of the only non spam comments in the last week? And the spam comments are STILL up? Yeah... If that's how it is I'll play my games elsewhere.
Holy crap! some zombie girl showed up last night and tried to strangle me. I overpowered her though. But when I tried to ask her what she was doing, she tried to attack me with a knife! Luckily, I managed to get to the 1911 in my drawer first. A double tap and a call to the police dept. later, and I was sleeping much better. The carpet cleaners will be stopping by later today. Thank God I live in Texas.
