I recently received a message from a user who hadn't even played the game saying that the Pope does not represent Christianity. I replied to him at length and I think the reply is worth sharing because it highlights some other reasons I made this game:
"Hi X, I appreciate your comment. I disagree that the Pope has nothing to do with Christianity. If you look up “Catholic Church” in Wikipedia, the first thing you read is this: “The Catholic Church, also known as the Roman Catholic Church, is the world’s largest Christian church, with 1.2 billion members.”.
I don’t know what your particular Christian denomination could be but this is precisely another problem I have with religion… If God revealed himself to mankind, why didn’t he do it in a way that would leave no room for ambiguity? I mean, why are there so many different ways to interpret the Bible and thus so many denominations in Christianity?"
Thank you all for your feedback! At first I tried to make the game have more of a story with the questions branching out, but they soon grew exponentially and it was very hard keeping track of so many possibilities. Regarding the purpose of the game, what I tried to do was merely present some issues that make it hard for me to believe in Christianity. I just wanted to make the players face them and think for themselves. The Pope gives real answers that I found all over the Internet. They are not logical or convincing for me but they might be for other people, that’s why the Devil is silent for the most part.
Thank you very much for your feedback! It is the first game I upload to Kongregate. It was originally an iOS game but I got fed up with Apple's hubris (you have to pay an annual fee to publish games and jump through a lot of hoops just to test you game in a device) and decided to port it to Flash and re-release it for free. I did it for my little daughters who actually posed for the animations.
