Regarding calling in waves early, the damage output of Etherwinds will jump if you call in waves early. Also, regarding interval between waves being too short, that's what time spiral is for.
For those asking why they don't just enable autowalk, consider this: Suppose you're trying to get a KISS award, and so you only built a bridge sturdy enough for one worker to cross at a time. If autowalk is always enabled, then both workers will be forced to cross at once and the bridge will break

SPOILER: regarding the gold generating machine, it has a 10% chance of generating either 60 or 150 gold instead of 20. Problem is that I have a bug where the gold generating machine stops working once you refresh the page and continue. Not sure if the rest of you experience this problem though
@internet_handle I am not too sure, but I think the score for a level = commands + calls. Uncompleted levels count as 1998 points. Therefore, you should aim for fewer calls as the number of calls is easier to reduce than the number of commands.
