Ok, I've played the original and the Doge version of this game, and there are some interesting differences between those versions and this one.
Pros: Good music
Cons: game is slightly laggy. Seriously, how did you even manage that one?
Great story, character design, and music. My only complaint is that there are only two endings, one good (support Yun both times) and one bad (give any other answers).
Tip: don't choose poison water. The perfected version takes forever to kill some of the toughest opponents (averaging 11 damage every 2 turns against Burning Hill Clan Leader). And PVP would be terrible for this game, since so much depends on who gets the first move (also, there's at least 2 hardlock combos that trump every other mage, given enough HP, MP, and time to start up).
Two pieces of advice for some of the harder levels:
1. Some levels can be beaten simply by throwing more bodies at the problem.
2. It pays to make a timer out of one shadow by having it stand in a corner and jump continuously.
i found that the commando was overall the best class for offensive missions. The sniper was great when you only had to defend a single location, but had too few hp to be able to attack an enemy position. However, I would never have been able to beat the final challenge with a commando (tanks take too many shots to kill), but managed it on the first try with a sniper due to cloaking.
Great game, but the AI settings for party members are terrible. I watch as Veradux repeatedly (with plenty of focus) ignores me at 1/3 health and attacks enemies, while on phalanx mode. I watch Roald ignore the enemy with 70 health and attack the one with 2000, while on aggressive mode. It would be nice if allies would follow simple orders, or at least ATTACK THE SAME FREAKING TARGET. Lack of coordination has caused me more losses than any boss in the game.
Achievement unlocked: Starvation over 9000!
In my defense, I wanted to see how long it took to cover 75% of the map with reactors, when the other 25% was speedboosters.
DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES CHOOSE POISON WATER AS YOUR STARTING CLAN. It takes 3x as long to kill some of the harder enemies (ie, anyone high class from Burning Hill), because you get stuck doing 6 damage or so per turn just to keep them locked down.
To everyone who beat hard mode: Don't even think about bragging until you've beaten the game on hard mode without dying, killing all enemies, in under 8 minutes, in one run. On an unrelated note, aerial D counters all of Vandheer Lorde's attacks except for his own D move (which is easy to dodge). It also does a good amount of damage and charges your bar a decent amount.
Tip: don't choose poison. It leads to the longest battles in the game. If you're ice, once you become #1 mage you can freeze your opponent out of basic attacks basically forever. If you're chaos, spam those 9001 missiles! If you're fire, combined attack gets disgusting when you deal 700 damage a turn. If you're blood, boost your special and abuse silence. If you're water, defensive combined attacks and absorbs can beat fire mages for damage.
First of all, AMAZING GAME! My only complaint is that you redid Vandheer Lorde's flash-step attack, taking out the blind spot behind him and giving him invulnerability frames at the end of it. However, I may or may not have played altogether too much Armed With Wings 3, making Vandheer Lorde more difficult than he would be otherwise.
4.5/5. Great game, beautiful artwork, love the combos, but there are some glitches to fix.
1. It's possible to score dozens of hits in a single move, if timed properly (i'm not sure about the exact timing, but it seems to deal with the teleportation that bosses do).
2. Teleport can cause several problems. You can sometimes teleport outside the stage, and then get stuck in an infinite void. You can also teleport off of a pressure pad as soon as you step on it, causing you to press the plate down, but not trigger the cutscene to open the door. You can also no longer depress the plate to try again.
3. This isn't so much a bug as an issue of mechanic placement, but Teleport is really important for boss battles, since Network and Vandheer Lorde both have open stages, and some of their combos can knock you offstage, leading to instant death. I really would have liked to have had the power much earlier.
another way to kill Gaaz is to simply blitz him and kill him before he can use his lightning shockwave attack. Also, the Shadow Step ability is a little glitchy (thrown myself outside the stage a few times).
Also worth noting that the game is unwinnable as a Chaos Fire mage. when facing the Sea Water Clan Leader, he mana drains every turn, so your Twice spell is useless. And he heals every 3 turns or so, so even if you sneak 30 damage through every turn he has, he heals for 20, and hits you for 30.
How is Deidara hard? Spam her Summon until you're low on reitsu, then swap between reitsu pressure and heal to restore your reitsu while maintaining health, then repeat. As far as I can tell, most of Rukia's other kido moves are no better than simple attacks.
