AI behavior is regular,understand it,you will be more handy,For example,AI’s attack order basically select the nearest enemy unit,then you can use Magical Armor/Divine Shield or some friends’magics on a high initiative common unit,let him move forward to the appropriate location,to withstand damage and waiting for an opportunity to attack.In fact,the pirates is a good unit to do this.These are designed to save stamina.
By the way,you’d better upgrade magic, recommended some magics against AI:Magic Armor, Divine Shield,Slowdown,even Fiery Arrow,and some magics against player:Entanglement,light tread/Acceleration,Divine Shield
