So you remade Frantic Frigates. Fair enough, worth a try. Action works reasonably well. Your upgrade system needs improvement. There is never a reason to think about which upgrade to get, or to sell one to be able to buy another. Also, we hit the max upgrade in, like, 3 plays - what's the point of money afterwards?
Timed upgrades are a Farmville-style unpleasantness to leverage vulnerable users to pay for in-game speed-up upgrades. It has no place in this kind of game, unless dev is planning to switch to pay-to-play-ok model. This would be a terrible shame and will most likely flop.
"simplifying Protector gameplay" ?
I am sorry, but you have not achieved your goal. This is far more complicated than any of the previous protector games, not only in terms of build logic (deploying fighting units to harvest materials, losing the game when you don't have enough of one resource to build your resource gathering units, etc)) but also just in plain interface - the fact that I need to click on 4 separate locations just to upgrade my base level units is just painful. It could become a good game, but you need a lot of balancing and redesigning.
it's remarkable how you managed to cripple otherwise a decent shooter with terrible controls. DvM worked because you could anchor the shooting angle. Since you can't here, you end up not being able to shoot at things that shoot at you - dodging and aiming at the same time is pretty important part of most shooters - not having it completely ruins this one.
nice graphics, pretty fun gameplay, but poor level/upgrade/difficulty design. A couple of levels (14 comes to mind) were a total bottleneck, and I nearly gave up, since it seemed to require a very specific upgrade path to get through. Retries don't help if you have to sell your guns at a discount.
this is not "recreated", the intro is not "stolen", this is an *emulation* of the original Zero Wing. So it would be nice if all of you guys stopped complaining about it
shmup creators out there! stop!! losing weapons on death (and in this one even on getting hit) is not fun!! it does not make the game more challenging, just more frustrating... for once, get one of your friends to play it and watch - does it go like 'first life, 10 minutes, 2nd and 3rd life, about 10 seconds each'? Is this really the experience that you want to provide to the player?
Stop the cargo cult! I am sick of shmups that take your weapons away on death. It is the most retarded way to punish a player... So I made it to level 5 without dying, then died once, lost my powerful weapon, and, naturally, lost my remaining lives in a quick succession.. No fun in that..
Losing all of your power-ups on death? Come on, people, let's stop this cargo cult.. So I reached a point in the game which was so hard that I died.. And now you take away all my firepower and ask me to do it again? You already penalized me - I lost a life... making me lose 5 more in quick succession is not fun at all...
