A good start, the difficulty needs adjusting. The first part starts of very easy then gets impossible to keep full health, but late game it becomes too easy as rate of fire overpowers anything.
Did you even play this your self? In level 5 the destroyed enemy ships aren't removed so the game becomes even more unplayable than it was normally because of all the lag.
A minor bug: int the how to play section the republican elephant icons aren't being shown correctly its showing the democat donkey mirrored.
Also a menu option to choose animation speed would be nice, for instance normal, fast(x2), and fastest(x3). This would in my opinion would speed up game play which could help maintain interest in the game.
The AI's use of Alien Abduction ability is flawed. It seems to use it only when it when no flunkies are on the board and will use to as many times back to back as it can.
I love the graphics! Great job capturing an old school TV, the way a bright object slightly burns it's image onto the screen, and the flickering of tracking of an VCR is nice. The game is pretty decent and challenging too.
5) The code for space combat needs some serious optimization it seems like the enemy's best weapon is some ECM that effects my computer directly, but seriously its gets really laggy around day 45. I think this is due to the missile ships, it seems the lesson when I destroy them, this may be attributed to the ship or the particle effects on the missiles. Also the lag extends into the macro-management phase as well so some objects may not be getting cleaned up.
Good start for a game so far but a couple of things.
1) As others have mentioned the missiles travel slower diagonally this is caused by the x,y movement not being normalized (A^2+B^2=C^2 not A+B=C) although it seems you've normalized the player ship's movement.
2) The construction view info panels on the left side do not show the correct info.
3) The initial bonuses for government and economics do not seem to be applied, specifically the .5 bonuses seems your rounding it down to 0 or not adding it.
4) The difficulty increase on space combat ships seems to be a bit much once you encounter the tie fighter looking ships.
Well I try to avoid them as they don't work (normally) on smartphones. Where exactly would you expect them? What points need more explanation? :)
