I find it more fun to just chill and get all the upgrades than rush really fast. It took me until round 29 to win because I was taking my time. {SPOILER ALERT} When the tree mutates, try to kill it only using the beginning pistol.

Never, ever check your speed while playing. Sensitivity 2.5 or more is helpful on hard mode at higher speeds.
