Ok. 4.0, because I figured out level 21, but it's not a puzzle game. I don't want to have to figure out that some green things give bonuses in order to beat a level (especially things so easy to defeat). Add a Bestiary (that says that some green guys give gun boosts), make all specials work on level 20+ foes, make faster bullets not suck, and you've got a 5.0. It's very very close. Best regards to the Dev.
Pros: Fun Upgrade system. Balanced for most levels. Reasonable quantity of grinding required, but not excessive.
Cons: Some upgrades are useless (since Black Hole & Whoosh don't work on most foes level 20+), a the "faster bullets" option DISables the ability to have the screen full of extra bullets. Level 21 is critically imbalanced.
The current difficulty of Level 21, and the uselessness of certain upgrades nets a 3, maybe a 2. Will keep it a 3 because of the involvement of the Dev! : ) - If Level 21 were rebalanced by allowing Whoosh and BlackHole to work on any enemy (aside perhaps from "bosses"), it'd be an easy 5.
Will check back and see if these things change.
Great simple game. I can't always see the Achievements button, and would like to access that menu more often. Would also enjoy a graphic upgrade to match the quality of gameplay.
Honestly really boring at later levels. On wave 19, and it's just such a boring and difficult grind. I have no idea how this was ever ranked up to a 4.6 overall score. It has a lot of cool options if you want to grind forever, but then it's only about 1/5 battle strategy, 3/5ths grind, and 1/5th luck (blocks, crits, dodges, ranged). What I do like, my #1 takeaway: Poisonous Dynamite. +1 there. 3.0 for effort and smoothness and dev interaction. Hope to see a less grindy, more battle strategy heavy game from you.
1/5 strategy, 3/5 grind, 1/5 luck, that's actually a pretty accurate formula! Congrats. Well, I'm gonna raise the strategic part in the sequel for sure, but it's still gonna be a game about training to be better. Aka grinding.
Fun game, but the leveling system actually doesn't work for me. It's not a level system. It's a pretend to level system. Right? Every arena I need to grind till I can kill most enemies in 2 hits. Rinse repeat. : / (Level 43 before commenting)
Needs serious improvement. I can't see other body upgrades until I sell my crate? Really? I have to risk my body to be able to check prices?
@Dev - Keep it going, but fix these silly things. Glad your health is doing better.
Ok, last comment. Down to 3.0 stars. They make a big deal about the mounted knights. But they suck. You can't use formations, so that drops all stats by 1 (for all intents and purposes); they also ALWAYS go after the nearby foes, so they never get to charge or use speed; they have great base stats but come out on the loosing side every time even with "brutal attacks"; they flee easily (had 200 run away when facing weaker troops and we had more morale). - Great concept overall, needs tweaking.
