@bobyb64 just make your enemy timer only count if the boss is not on the screen... i.e. if(_root.yourBoss._visible == false) { enemyTimer += 1; }

OMFG!!! i just spent about 4 hours trudging through my coding to find out that the reason that my health bar wasn't scaling was that i had put the instance name of as healthBar.bar and then refered to it in my code as _root.healthMeter.bar PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE be very careful with your instance names. it's an rooky mistake but be vigilant! also be careful as it's picky with capitalisation too... just glad i got it working in the end! :P

it would appear that (judging by others comments) that anyone using macromedia flash 8 cannot load up the source files once downloaded. could anyone post it so that those with macromedia can carry on with this tutorial. it's a bit annoying that after getting this far i'm being held back by software... thanks

aah.. source files downloaded but now i'm unable to open SH_05.fla it says "Unexpected file format." i'm using macromedia flash 8 if that has anything to do with it. PLZ HELP!

@krinsmnite: it's probably to do with the frame rate of the game being different to the frame rate of your explosion. but that's just a guess

@boometh: had the same problem with my missiles in shootorial 3. however when i'd completely finished that shootorial i just deleted the missile and then the layer the missile was in and it still worked.. not sure if this will help in your case but it's worth a try...

ignore all my previous comments... i was right about the missile. to fix error message "Missile could not be found" draw missile on PAINT and save as a .PNG image. convert to symbol in the same way as in previous shootorials. also call it something simpler than missile "ms1" for example... worked for me. hope it does for you.
