I'm in a bit of disbelief that this scam of a game made it on the "new games" list somehow. Obviously money was involved. Screw it, I'll just say it, they used bribery to game the system. I'm not willing to take a look at what they changed due to how offensive the original was; there is nothing to salvage here. The idea wasn't badly implemented; there wasn't room for improvement. The game itself started from a foundation of pay-to-win and nothing can change that. If they really wanted to distance from the scam pay-to-win that came before, they would have just created a new game that wasn't designed for that model.
I like this game overall, but it seriously needs a blueprint mode. My thought is to have a secondary build screen, where you can arrange things as you want... but it doesn't actually run time or cost money. Just useful for prototyping, it should ignore conveyor movement, but allow the player to set up equipment on the grid without expending money. Others have suggested that this should also allow transferring from blueprint to real play by copy-paste, and that would be nice but not necessary. It would be enough of a boon to allow designing machine layouts without costing money in a non-production setting.
so... Higher-tier materials rarely produce better goods. What's up with that? Every time I use Steel or Mithral I just get Bronze or Iron goods... So Copper is the best metal?? I usually get Iron or Steel out of that. Is something up with the chances or do I just have the worst luck possible?
Would be cool if the hero could upgrade more compared to the normal units. As is, Queen Etheria is so much more powerful than the other two just for the Regen spell, and the others really don't get much to compensate. Early on the hero is very powerful, but Late on the hero is a liability rather than an asset; it would be nice if there was at least a way to make use of the hero, even if it was risky for some missions. The Regen spell is literally the only thing I use my hero for in Challenge and Trial levels.
If you want to make this game much, much easier, especially in the late levels, all you have to do is be Queen Etheriea. Her Regen power is extremely potent on stronger creatures.
Most boss fights are very good for XP/gold. The fake Paladog fight (4-12) is particularly good since he can't be killed by normal units; Just pay attention since enemies eventually stop giving XP/Gold. You need to do magic damage to win that level, so bring at least one wand that does magic damage (I used Comet, Heal, Poison as my wands for most of the game; worked out very well). Summon Rhinos, stay out of harm's way, and just watch the XP/Gold roll in. It isn't enough for end-game leveling, but mid way it's a good stop.
Key units to unlock: Bear, Rooky, Rhino. These are going to be your mainstays for their time; Bear early on, Rooky as soon as possible, and Rhino once you get some good cash. I really wouldn't bother with Turtle for tanking; Rhino is so much better overall. Apply Ranged units (rabbit, monkey, Penguin, Dragon) as needed after that.
@MarsVoltaic Yeah, I'm having trouble getting Perfect with the Horde too. They just don't have any super-kick-ass unit like the other armies (zealot and giant robot are intense; combine with full upgrades for them and spells = easy win).
Anyway, that's my advice for the Ice folks, at least; get the Tower upgrades and the Giant Robot upgrades. All else is optional. Capture a castle as quickly as possible, pump out Robots, win game. Another note: most upgraded units can solo an ogre (who guards treasure) so send units out to capture treasure as quickly as possible. Farms are way better than Mines if you can keep your troops alive (easiest with Westaria's healing, and Giant Robot's regen... good luck with horde...)
helper153 has a good point; maybe boost defender hp if Melee type, (or reduce damage; whatever; not by a lot though. SOME advantage, not overwhelming) and have ranged be inside building (and thus invulnerable) until building is destroyed. Ideas for sequel, sure. As I don't program for Flash, I'm not really certain how hard-coded stuff is (but I've seen plenty of similar arguments from developers; makes me think Flash is both a blessing and a curse!)
@tizianotamanini (god your name is a nuisance to type) You can select more than one unit; drag a box around the unit icons to get more than one. It's not the most convenient method, but it works. As for your other complaints, I heartily agree that there should be spell quick-buttons! well, something to do for the sequel. I rated 5/5; despite some annoyances in interface, the game itself is a lot of fun and smoothly varied.
one complaint: when a small enemy is right on top of me, the shotgun doesn't seem to kill them. I've died a couple times while backing up and firing shotgun shells at a small foe that was too close, and so didn't get hit.
would be nice to be clear on what exactly armor does; several armor upgrades don't seem to be keeping me alive any longer than not having them (I went mostly damage boost for skills, so I one-shot everything, including bosses). The full-price re-sell makes it so we don't really need too in-depth weapon descriptions since we can try them out, at least. Still, 4 top-grade armor upgrade boosts + toughest hull should be a tank, but gets squished pretty damn easily.
very well designed mechanics; fun, intuitive, balanced. Could use more variety and longer missions/campaign; it strikes me more as a demo than a full game.
Hero definitely needs some late game improvements. The White Tiger makes the heroes look like total chumps, and he's expendable.
Maybe have longer upgrade trees for heroes, or give them multiple accessory slots, or have some other way of scaling HP. 2k hp units (heroes) die way too quickly even in the late normal missions.
I have no idea how, but I got the best bow on lvl 3. Made the early and mid game very easy when I can spam triple shot everywhere; also made enchant choices easy.
