I think what this represents is how the craziest of dreams have no real value. Against all odds (or about 100 dead runners), this guy got his loved one from hell and came back. Problem is, he's now dead. As in, hell is quite conveniently for the dead. So he went to hell and came back with another, but now he's dead.
