having to click to unfreeze towers is really annoying and detracts from the strategy. I suggest not allowing click to unfreeze or get rid of freeze altogether.
Also, some levels are truly impossible to win without using active skills, and I can see how using specials badly can screw up the game. In my experience though I never had trouble from a lack of money to buy specials.
Also there doesn't seem to be the strategic depth that EW3 had. Namely that this time you go through a set campaign rather than a turn-based struggle against an aggressive AI that can take over your cities and strongholds.
As others have said the main problem with the game is the limit on upgrades. Either remove the cap on unit size or remove the cap on unit attack or health upgrades. Either way hard-earned XP should not be going to waste.
Also, I find it annoying that you have to "load" units when a battle starts. Shouldn't you have all your army with you when the battle begins? It's just pointless waiting time and should be removed. The regen time should still be there. Possibly limit the number of reinforcements or allow reinforcement cards that allow you to call up large numbers of reinforcements quickly.
Also I missed the minimap and spells user interface that we had in EW3.
German campaign makes no sense. I'm winning battles but somehow I'm still getting pushed back? It makes no sense.
If the Germans beat the Normandy landings then there wouldn't have been a Battle of the Bulge. There would be no Allied advance through France.
This isn't a strategy game, it's a tactical game.
