I noticed that there is a light gray covering that goes away when something can be purchased. This needs to be slightly more defined, it takes some concentration to see the difference between light gray and black. Maybe a darker gray or a lighter black could be used.
3 stars. Needs more variety in powerups, I think there were only two that didn't have to do with jumping. Needs better graphics. Good for a first try though, definitely like to see more from you.
Why doesn't the up arrow jump? Can it be set to jump and climb, climb while in front of ladder? (I'm a proponent of reducing the number of buttons needed for any game as much as possible)
It is not clear at first that holding jump longer makes me go higher, making the white button above the first enemy seem impossible to get. Once I figured that out, I went back and got it. Maybe guide the player with a high obstacle before that point?
Finally, Ducking doesn't lower me far enough to avoid a visual collision with the sparky thing, but somehow ducking protects me anyway. Why?
Overall, pretty great start. Needs work.
There should be a Dollar Per Second (DPS) indicator next to each store type. It could be static, a one-time calculation performed each time a store is bought, and just show a user how effective each of the stores are compared to each other.
I like this game quite a bit. I do feel that having a score submission after every level takes me out of it a little bit mentally. Your physics could use some work, but really good first game. I personally prefer the mario-style level design of having a clearly defined path through the level. This seems more like a sonic-designed open world level environment. Keep going, I'd like to see more games by you.
I like the timer and the way that there is no interruption of any kind between levels. The graphics are poor, but that is forgiveable. The level design is mediocre. The death graphic is bad. I want splatter on objects, not just a star of blood. The muddy controls in a precision-jumping game are unforgivable. One star.
I like the particle effects when the robot dies. I don't like that I have to use the mouse to move to the next level when the game uses keyboard controls.
Also, it is often difficult to jump because the level design uses such tight spaces everywhere. The enemies give no warning about their spawn timing or which direction they will go when they appear. Finally, this game gives me no way to control danger, I can only avoid danger. Two stars.
The problem with 'too high a drop can kill you' is that it doesn't make sense. There is no health meter here and no 'that was almost far enough to kill you", A jump is simply survivable with no ill effects or it results in death, no in-between.
Don't get me started on the way spikes work in this game...
Hero. Princess... fine. Some guy to be avoided in the middle? Why not just put in a deadly obstacle?
2 stars.
Interesting levels, ok control, maddeningly frustrating. Would be a better game if there was a way to play through untimed, even if high scores were only recorded in timed mode.
@BarbieF, So I have to be a developer to criticize a game? Should we require all movie critics to produce movies?
So you are saying that I am all three adjectives... so if I fail on any one point your entire argument is invalid? Ok....
I admit I could have offered more constructive criticism, but my follow up was based on my and another guys comments being triple-downvoted together.
@BarbieF, Am I an asshole, 12, or a crybaby? Make up your mind. Also, nice avoiding saying anything nice about this game, because there isn't anything there.
The fact of the matter is this: This is my very first attempt at making a game. I know that there are problems with things, I however don't have the experience to know how to fix them as of yet. So when someone comes along and writes something so stupid as "Keyboard and mouse?? 1 star" That doesn't help me out. That doesn't allow my knowledge to grow. That shows me that you don't know how to use two hands. And oh by the way, now my game looks like it is literally the worst game on this site because you didn't know how to do something. Learn how to use your hands first off and second stop being rude. If I figure out how to fix it I will. Otherwise get out.
Excellent, thanks for the feedback. The ducking 'collision' could use some work. I'm on it!
