I have 5 keys for the new Astrox Imperium on GOG.com
comment above, I will pick the 5 best comments and DM you a key for a free copy of Astrox Imperium. Once the contest is over, This post will transform into a list of the winners. Super thank you to all of you who have support my game over these past years, I cannot thank you enough!
interesting gameplay. i haven't come across one like this before. keep working on it. maybe add a level screen with achievements. and don't get discouraged about the rating, my first few games had bad ratings too. it just takes time to learn what people expect, and enjoy.
I am finding it difficult to hit the birds. after playing for 8 minutes, i have not been able to make it past the first stage. i die every time in about 30 seconds from the start. very cool concept, looks like i would enjoy it more if i could survive more than 30 seconds. not sure if you are going for flappy bird difficulty, but if not. try to make it a bit easier to hit the birds.
it would be cool if you made it so that when you reach a certain score, you advance to another stage. you can even make it easy on yourself, and only change the background and mask. the targets would still pop up in the same positions as they do now. you could progress to a tournament maybe. upgrades, a shop, cool so far.
it is a much easier fix than you think. you are not losing quality at all, you are just shrinking the visible window, and allowing the players to choose to make it fullscreen. go look at my game astrox, it has a ton of stuff all crammed in 900 X 650, but you can make it fullscreen. it does not change the resolution quality at all, it just enlarges the visible play area by moving the UI elements to the edges of the screen. i can send you screenshots of what i see here, and if you want, i will even show you the unity JS code i use to do this.
You're right!! The fullscreen button works nicely in your game. I will gladly re-use your code, rather than re-invent the wheel.
EDIT: I did some Googling, and re-invented the wheel with my own fullscreen button. :)
never make the default game siize bigger than 900 x 650, it will not allow some players with older laptops to see everything on the screen without having to scroll, this make the game unplayable. you can always add a fullscreen button, just make sure you are scaling things based off of the screen size and not hardcoding the placement of gui elements.
I wish you told me this resolution a week ago, BEFORE I hit publish! :)
It's really tough making something in glorious 1080p, then shrinking it. That's why I had to stop at 720p. Maybe next time I'll do two versions, 480p and 720p.
i would suggest limiting the default sceen size to 900 x 650. some people with laptops cannot even fit the game on the screen. you can always add a fullscreen button. what are the coins for? why not have 3 lives.
Thank you, that was exactly my intention(to make an abstract/art/experimental thing).
I'll go read your full review now.
By the way... How far did you get? I have a feeling no-one (aside from me and the people I've tested with) actually "completed" the game yet.
great start to a space invaders clone. here are a few suggestions to make it even better. The score drops down into the battle field once you get to 3 didgits, give it more room or make it font smaller. add explosions effect and sound when hit, and pause the game for a few seconds when your new ship slides up from the bottom. add a mute button for sound and music. add a wave counter, so you can see how many waves destroyed. with your new wave counter variable, you can add it to the enemy speed to they get progressively harder. make the enemy drop a bomb every so often that destroys your cities below. you must shoot the bomb down before it hits, all cities gone is game over. keep up the good work :)
Thanks a lot for all those advices ^^
For the score, yes, I realized it dropped, and tried to correct it (thought I did) but obviously it did not work, so I'll see about it.
Explosion and sound, too, I had planned to add them, but this upload is the project as I handed it to teacher at school and I did not had time to add those sadly...
The wave counter is a very good idea, I hadn't thought of it and indeed it will help me implement acceleration of the waves! thanks a lot for that one!
Mute button as well, for player comfort.
The bomb sound great too... maybe adding it at the same time as the rare alien that (in the original game) sometime pass by...
Thanks a lot anyway for the return, it both help and please me a lot ^^
not bad for your first unity project :) here are some suggestions.
a mute button on the main screen, longer and seamless music loop, better camera and movement controls. i alos dev in unity, PM me if you need help figuring something out.
The bar at the top is a research bar, I'll make it much clearer, but if you play until the research bar is full, there is an ending
