So what if you added an unlocking factor to it?
Say, you cant get diamonds until you have the mines and you need so many wood (maybe?) or coins to buy world three and after that you can have a weapons smith that you need so many diamonds to unock and after that you can have an enchanter who you need so many titanium to unlock. Then you have an item gained by fighting monsters that you can use to unlock that.
You can also Have an item gained by the blacksmith that you would need to unlock the next world and etc. And the last world could be the nuke where you finally rid the world of those pesky monsters once and for all!
And perhaps this game could even have a storyline to it. Such as, the monsters destroyed your house with the help of an evil wizard who you are bent on destroying.... but first you have to rebuild your house....
