I tried this game when it first came out and it had serious balance problems. It still does, like HMGs literally not being able to hit any target ever, even at point-blank range. The reloading period on all guns makes them completely impractical to use; only the hunter can survive with the bowgun. There are some neat ideas here, but like the Elona Roguelike, the balance is just crazy.
This is a good effort and is fun to play. The graphics are cute without being overly cartoony. My major complaint with gameplay is that magic is very hard to use and impossible to one-shot a monster with, since you can't utilize it until after you've initiated combat. I ended up ignoring anything but heals in favor of trying to maximize melee in order to avoid damage.
This is an interesting idea, and the unlocking is fun--until you get done with most of the unlocks and have to grind the dungeon over and over, ignoring almost everything in search of the right level and the right monster. Spawns should skew towards what you don't already have, or there should be alternate ways to earn unlocks besides defeating the boss and just happening to find that rare monster.
Interesting game concept, though the clipping is kinda random and throws me off a lot. I think I've avoided an object and then it hits me while it's out of view.
There are too many things to click through to get through to the next flight attempt. Options should remain selected unless you click to an options screen on the final flight board, for instance. Toss the Turtle is a good example. Otherwise it ends up that you fly for one second and spend ten seconds navigating animated menus to try again.
It's a cute game overall though, I love penguins.
The enemy sprites and terrain get awfully repetitive. Also, buying premium should get you all of the items--as it is they want $6 for one gun, and won't let you see the price without actually clicking to try and spend kreds. That's downright shifty, and so 3/5.
The animation speed being so slow means that all battles take forever, and lack of keyboard controls is hard. Wish there was a way to turn off the music. The art is nice enough and it's a serviceable JRPG-type game, particularly for being free in flash.
The only thing that keeps me from giving this game 5 stars is the inability to switch weapons while reloading. Seriously, why do you have a backup weapon if you can't bring it out in a crisis?
