Yay, second try saw me through with the afore mentioned setup :)
Oops, it was day 39 :) Forgot to add I had machine guns and mortars too, two of each in directionaly opposite towers.
Had a quite good run to day 36 with two repairman on every wall and movable force of 6 gunners and 2 heavies. Went well until I lost one tower. I didn't make all the optimal buying moves, so this could work.
