A good visual novel, but I sure wish that's what the title said. The shooter elements were like an afterthought in comparison, and I couldn't find even a trace of an RPG.
Most of the grindfests like this can be beaten by launching your thing, doing something else while waiting for the run to finish, and repeating. This one is different as it forces you to hold up and pauses if the window loses focus, so you need to leave the window on top and turn away from your computer to do something else. Brilliant.
Was there any bonus for getting all items? I spent like half my play time pointlessly running around because some of those required running around the whole damn world because you can't backtrack from the section on the right. Then ended up with 11/12 anyway because I forgot to dash, fell short on a jump and couldn't retry without doing the whole trip again.
The game is ok but playing it in the way required for high score highlights a huge number of flaws that you could pretty much ignore on normal playthrough. The hard badge should have never been created, let alone made badge of the day.
This feels like a game made by people who don't play games themselves. Who came up with the idea that regularly making the player slow down to a crawl would be a fun gameplay mechanic, for example?
Why does unlocking pro league require pole positions? I got 1st in all of bronze and silver league's races without bothering with the qualifications, so now I'll have to redo all of them if I want to progress any further?
Well, it's exactly the same as previous Battalion games, and the same strategies are still broken. If you want to have it easy, just turtle up with a bunch of rocket launchers (or battleships if available) and the ai will keep sending its units to certain death. If needed, block the enemy away with fighters, pick off all his anti-air, and laugh at the infantry and tanks that sit helplessly behind the fliers, waiting for a rocket to fall on them.
To beat the all splitters -level you just need to realize there's no ghosts, and that all the enemies even have the same speed. If you're any good at juggling, you shouldn't have a problem with it.
