Huh, I was thinking that this badge was much harder than the usual cakewalk mediums, but mostly because of the 3min achievement, 16 swans was one of the first I went for and had no problem getting it.
Here's a free lesson in UI design: having a return to game -button in the lower right corner of the options menu is an established convention, players will click it without thinking and expect to return to game. YOU DON'T PUT A F***ING "QUIT GAME" BUTTON THERE, NAME IT "RETURN TO [whatever]", AND HAVE IT KILL YOUR PROGRESS IN THAT LEVEL WITHOUT A PROMPT.
Yes, I did just get screwed by that thing again, in case it wasn't blatantly obvious.
So someone decided that instead of being able to concede in multiplayer, you can only quit, which is tracked as a separate stat and doesn't count as a win for the other player. Nice job retards! And for the medium badge, have fun trying to find 5 opponents who don't quit before you finish them!
To elaborate a little: I do like more of the same if it's a shoot 'em up with good gameplay that gets more difficult or whatever. More of holding jump, spamming heal and firing spells around the place? No, it doesn't get more interesting by giving the enemies more hp, an additional wave and new sprites. It only takes longer.
If you're going to have no relevant new content after 15 minutes or so, don't make the friggin' thing drag on for hours. I'm at 'hard' levels as I'm typing this and bored out of my mind, if I wasn't the type to grind out badges from bad games I would have abandoned the game long ago.
Seriously, how to get the hard badge: Pick straight pattern and fixed motion, sweep the screen horizontally picking all yellows and avoiding reds, restart until yellow madness appears within the first quarter, don't do anything retarded. With those settings it shouldn't be too hard to not screw up, and the timing of the yellow madness makes the difference between 4 and 6 million points by itself.
How to win everything: be a lucksack and get a yellow madness while on purple power. 172x bonus + 9.3M points on Gentle without trying too hard would hint this to be a good strategy.
I'd like to correct my earlier comment about the game being unplayable on a slow computer. Actually it runs just fine, there's "only" an insane memory leak which does the same thing after running the game for a while.
I'll also second the comment about the game being waaay too tedious. Getting that last badge felt so much like a chore that I have no proble letting that 1/5 rating stand.
Just dropped my rating to 1/5 out of spite. My computer is several years old but I can't remember any other games on Kongregate that I couldn't play so far, while this one became unplayable by level 8 and there isn't even that much happening on screen. I can't believe how sloppy the code must be. Seriously, you couldn't even let me adjust graphics quality or disable some effects?
It's not that easy if you're playing on a slow computer with a crappy mouse. I got 29,380 TWICE before getting the medium badge, and on hard I can't get past 160 or so even on the first level. :( Guess I should check back later...
Yep... currently I'm at about 110 seconds total on keyboard without level e, and that one is HELL. It's not even because of any exceptionally difficult parts, it's just about keeping your concentration for a minute of narrow diagonal and/or circular paths.
I can't believe they could make a survival game this boring. 100 000 points, are you f***ing kidding me? I gave up after 7 in-game days, it just can't be worth it.
