There's a hint in level 14. Every time you shoot a blue dot appears in the middle of the level. Align the dot with the cannon on the left and your crosshair on the far right of the screen!

For the sparta mission, I went with two fully upgraded flamers with an upgraded fan between them. The towers will do most, if not all of the work :P
