*** SPOILERS *** I didn't think there was any depth to Queen Catherine until I realized she is supposed to be mentally handicapped. The game has a lot of subtle hints pointing towards this fact. I won't give away all of them, but one example is on the `Kingdom Overview` page, it shows her first, using fingers to count even though she's holding an abacus. Second, she is holding the abacus sideways (perhaps explaining why she still needs to use fingers to count). Finally, her lack of mental development is so severe that it actually allows her to break the laws of physics, as shown by the gravity-defying wooden beads on the abacus. I love nuances within game stories - very well done! 5/5
Umm... are you taking all of the subtle hints at 'humor' that we threw in the game as Catherine being mentally retarded? Sorry to say that she will be shown as a truly intelligent ruler when I finish the dialogue overhaul. Despite her acting in cute ways at times, she's not mentally retarded. ~Taiga
Is this game even playable for anyone? After I hit play, I just see a blank button that fills the entire screen and takes me to Not Doppler's website. Nothing more.
Not sure why the developer decided to remove "show all" from the flash menu, but now the game is unplayable at high resolutions, since even though the browser will increase the size of all the elements, the flash movie won't stretch to fit which makes it much too small. Very amateur move - one shouldn't have to lower their resolution to play your game.
If you don't want players to use spaces in their names, you might want to make a note of it somewhere, instead of just having 'OK' do nothing. Amateur developer(s).
Finally, a Swords & Sandals game that wasn't developed by inbred teenagers. Best feature: This game doesn't take up all of your RAM because of easy-to-fix memory leaks. It's amazing how rare decent programming, not even good, but just decent, is in the light game industry.
*developer note* I hope there's a compression layer to the import/export state serialization code (eg: gzip - though I'm not familiar with what's available in actionscript). I would imagine there is, but I know from my own experience it's an easy thing to forget.
Just as a side note, I'd recommend storing the serialized states on your own remote table, mapped to a shorter key, so the codes are short enough for players to write down. Obviously this requires a server which isn't doable in all cases, but just something to consider, in-case you haven't. Still 5/5.
The waypoint ripple when clicking on the map should be a "mouse-press" event, rather than "mouse-release". It's more consistent for players using the mouse to move around.
I was given a 10x10 level with instructions that not only can't be solved without ridiculous amounts of brute force, but is also not listed in the walkthrough. Apparently I can't move on until this level gets finished either, since it's the only one listed in my menu. Awesome.
Awful, desynced loop. Just go to the music portal of Newgrounds to find real soundtracks from talented artists that are usually free to use, instead of pasting together a few measures of instrument clips of The Offspring. Major pet peeve of mine.
In just 30 seconds I can already see that it's nothing more than a cheaply and poorly made Recettear rip-off. 1/5 for the time of your life wasted on such an unoriginal game.
It tells me I finished a quest (scouting level 2 of Hozi) and to return to the NPC, yet there are no names in the Quest NPC window.. it's completely blank. This needs to be fixed.
Great concept. The full game should be tons of fun. I love the D&D elements, although I wish there was a stat to improve initiative, and a way to see my XP and level progress. A few kinks here and there, but I am very excited to see the finished product. This is a perfect example of real programming.
