I just slept in my fort during the waves and repaired my baloon during the breaks, it was a bit easy tbh, I got the medium badge before the easy one :/
As fun as the game was, it ended immediately after i realised that you could just drive to freedom, boosting and sheilding when necissary to avoid hull damage from trees, bombs etc. it also gives more useful resources because you get metal and wood. That was a bit of a let down.
